Hello, esteemed Splinterlands and Hivers community! Welcome to my participation in this week's social media challenge. I've returned to the modern ranking system, which I'd neglected quite a bit due to dedicating entire weeks to playing the Frontiers format. I've already managed to climb to Bronze League I, but at this point, the skill gap with my opponents is starting to show, mainly because they're beginning to use epic and legendary monsters. Currently, in my modern deck, the few legendaries I have are from the Rebellion Rewards set, while the epics are from Foundation and Rebellion Rewards, which feel insufficient to diversify my battle strategies.

Les doy la bienvenida a mi participación en el social media challenge de esta semana, he retomado nuevamente el ranking moderno que había tenido bastante descuidado por dedicarme a jugar semanas completas el formato Frontiers. Ya he logrado subir a la liga de Bronce I, pero en este punto ya comienza a notarse las diferencias de nivel en mis oponentes, principalmente porque ya comienzan a usar monstruos épicos y legendarios, mientras que actualmente en mi mazo moderno las pocas legendarias que tengo son de la edición rewards Rebellion mientras que las épicas son Foundation y rewards Rebellion que se sienten insuficientes para diversificar mis estrategias en batalla.
I recently bought a new plot of land to put into resource production, which I'll talk about in another post, but the important thing is that I received a good cashback on the purchase and decided to invest it in various common and rare cards that I needed, but mainly I invested it in two epic cards: Captain Fellblade and Aranduriel, to include more strong cards in my deck and be able to make my way through Bronze I and finally reach the Silver League. I've already tested both cards and the purpose of this post is to give you my impressions of them in the Modern format. Let's begin!
Recientemente compre una parcela nueva para ponerla a producir recursos de la que hablaré en otro post, pero lo importante es que recibí un buen cashback por la compra y decidí invertirlo en distintas cartas comunes y raras que me hacían falta pero principalmente los invertí en 2 cartas épicas: Captain Fellblade y Aranduriel, para incluir más cartas fuertes en mi mazo y poder abrirme paso en bronce I y finalmente alcanzar la liga de plata. Ya he puesto a prueba ambas cartas y el propósito de esta publicación es darte mis impresiones de ellas en el formato moderno. Comencemos!

🎴 Captain Fellblade
Let's start with the Rebellion epic card of the Water class: Captain Fellblade. I remember when this card was $10 when this card set was as old as Conclave is now, and look at it now at $1. I knew it would be a waste to buy this card set at launch and that it would be better to wait. It's not a bad card, as we'll see later, but unfortunately, the NFT ecosystem in general is still bearish; that's the reality. But let's see what characteristics finally convinced me to acquire this epic card.
Comencemos por la carta épica Rebellion de la clase agua: Captain Fellblade. Recuerdo cuando esta carta estaba en 10$ cuando esta edición de cartas tenía el mismo tiempo que actualmente tiene Conclave y véanla ahora a 1 $. Sabía que sería una pérdida comprar esta edición de cartas de salida y que lo mejor sería esperar. No es una mala carta como veremos más adelante, pero lamentablemente el ecosistema NFT en general sigue siendo bajista, esa es la realidad. Pero veamos que características me terminaron de convencer para adquirir esta carta épica.
Advantages/Ventajas
1. Combined damage and high speed/Daño combinado y alta velocidad
Whenever you find a card with combined damage, it's a card you have to take seriously. The advantage that cards like this provide is significant, especially in battles with rulesets like equal opportunity or super sneak. In this case, we have melee/magic damage in a single card, which explains its high market value upon release. This isn't surprising, as it deals devastating damage from level 1, and considering its high speed, it's almost guaranteed to be one of the first cards to attack at the start of a battle.
Siempre que te encuentres una carta con daño combinado, es una carta que tienes que tomártela en serio. La ventaja que dan cartas así es significativa sobre todo en batallas con ruleset como equal opportunity o super sneak. En este caso tenemos daño melé/mágico en 1 sola carta de allí que su valor fuera tan alto en el mercado cuando salió y no es de extrañar ya que desde el nivel 1 hace un daño terrible y considerando su alta velocidad es casi seguro que será de las primeras cartas en atacar al comenzar la batalla.
2. Sneak ability/Habilidad sneak
This ability is what finally convinced me to buy this card. The ability to attack the last position with magic is something your opponent won't expect, and if you add a melee attack, you can take down the target in the very first round. Currently, the modern water splinter is returning to its roots; that is, magic units are once again taking center stage in the meta.
Por esta habilidad fue que me terminé de convencer para comprar esta carta, la capacidad de atacar con magia la última posición es algo que tu oponente no se espera y si añadimos que suma un ataque melé podemos dar de baja al objetivo en el mismo primer round. Actualmente el splinter de agua en moderno esta volviendo nuevamente a sus raíces, es decir, las unidades mágicas vuelven a tener protagonismo en el meta.
Disadvantages/Desventajas
1. High mana cost/Alto coste de mana
If there's a disadvantage to this magnificent card, it's its high mana cost. However, I consider it fair given the combined attack it performs and its sneak ability, so I generally prefer to use this card in battles with a mana limit of 30 or higher. Below that amount, it's a risk that can be unnecessary if you have low-mana offensive cards.
Si alguna desventaja se le puede encontrar a esta magnífica carta, es su alto coste de mana aunque me parece justo por el ataque combinado que ejecuta y su habilidad sneak, así que por lo general me gusta utilizar esta carta en batallas con un límite de mana a partir de 30 en adelante. Por debajo de esa cantidad es un riesgo que puede ser innecesario si cuentas con cartas ofensivas de bajo coste de mana.
Battle/Batalla
I wanted to test this card, of course, with a lineup focused on magic attacks, and my opponent decided to use a Legendary Archon. Based on his track record, I already assumed he would use it; it's an Archon for dealing with melee/ranged opponents. But what he didn't realize was that I decided to attack with magic.
Quise poner a prueba esta carta por supuesto con una alineación enfocada en los ataques mágicos y mi oponente decidió utilizar un arconte legendario. Por su historial ya presumía que lo utilizaría, es un arconte para lidiar contra oponentes melé/rango pero lo que ignoró es que yo decidí atacar con magia.
Marlai Singariel
Currently, in the modern format, Water Splinters have very good magic units, but they would be useless without an Archon to boost their damage, since enemy units usually have a lot of health and can withstand two or even three powerful attacks. That's why we use Archon Marlai Singariel, whom I call Alric's bastard brood 🤣, since he boosts our magic damage by 1. And because we have a fairly high mana ceiling, we'll use two tanks on the front line that are literally damage sponges, while we use two strategic units to undermine the enemy from the rear.
Actualmente para el formato moderno el splinter de agua tiene muy buenas unidades mágicas, pero no serían nada sin un arconte que potencie este daño, ya que las unidades enemigas suelen tener mucha salud así que son capaces de soportar 2 y hasta 3 ataques poderosos. Por eso usamos el arconte Marlai Singariel al que llamo la prole bastarda de Alric 🤣, ya que potencia nuestro daño mágico en 1 y ya que tenemos un techo de mana bastante alto usaremos 2 tanques en la vanguardia que son literalmente esponjas de daño mientras usamos 2 unidades estratégicas que socaven al enemigo desde la retaguardia.

⚔️Rounds 1 - 3
Saltwater Mage
The other reason I bought Captain Fellblade is that, for the first time in Modern, we have two cards with magic damage that can attack the second position. We have a powerful magic synergy with Saltwater Mage, so even though our opponent placed two decoys, after the first round we already eliminated one and the second was weakened. Our tanks held out long enough in the second round for our Fellblade/Saltwater duo to eliminate two more cards, this time from the back line. And in the third round, while Commander Slade eliminates the enemy tank, the remaining enemy lineup is obliterated by Warborn Shaman and Saltwater Mage to seal the victory.
La otra razón por la que compre a Captain Fellblade es que por primera vez en moderno se suman 2 cartas con daño mágico que pueden atacar la segunda posición. Tenemos una poderosa sinergia mágica con Saltwater Mage que aún cuando nuestro oponente ubico 2 señuelos, después del primer round ya eliminamos a uno y el segundo esta debilitado. Nuestros tanques soportaron lo suficiente en el segundo round para que nuestro binomio Fellblade/Saltwater eliminaran 2 cartas más esta vez en la retaguardia. Y para el 3er round mientras Commander Slade elimina al tanque enemigo, lo que resta de la alineación enemiga es obliterada por Warborn Shaman y Saltwater mage para sellar la victoria.
Aranduriel: My first epic Conclave card!/Aranduriel: Mi primera carta conclave épica!
Now we continue with what is officially our first Epic Conclave card: Aranduriel. This card caught my attention for two reasons: first, it's a Dragon class, so I can use it with the other Splinters as long as we have a Dragon Archon; and second, its stats at level 1. I don't have any Epic Conclave reward cards yet, so let's see how effective this card can be.
Continuamos ahora con la que es oficialmente nuestra primera carta Conclave épica: Aranduriel. Esta carta me llamo la atención por 2 razones, primero que es de la clase dragón asi que puedo usarla con el resto de splinters siempre que tengamos un arconte dragón y segundo son las estadísticas de esta carta en el nivel 1. Aún no tengo cartas épicas rewards Conclave así que veamos cuan efectiva puede llegar a ser esta carta.
Advantages/Ventajas
1. Low mana cost and good damage/Bajo coste de mana y buen daño
I loved this card for its exceptional damage. Few cards deal 3 damage from level 1, and its mana cost of 6 is quite acceptable for mid-mana battles or even low-mana battles if you have the right cards to complement it.
Esta carta me encantó por su exepcional daño, pocas son las cartas que desde el nivel 1 hace un daño de 3 y a esto se suma se coste de mana que es de 6, bastante aceptable para batallas de mana intermedio o incluso de bajo mana si tienes las cartas apropiadas para acompañarla.
2. Sneak ability/Habilidad sneak
Like Captain Fellblade, this card also has the sneak ability, which allows it to attack the back row. That's precisely what convinced me to add it to my deck, as it can be a very good strategy to set up a formation that only attacks the back row and takes the enemy by surprise.
Al igual que captain Fellblade, esta carta también tiene la habilidad sneak que le permite atacar la última posición y fue eso precisamente lo que me convenció de añadirla a mi mazo pues puede ser una muy buena estrategia la de plantear una alineación que solo ataque la retaguardia y tomar por sorpresa al enemigo.
Disadvantages/Desventajas
Low speed/Baja velocidad
The disadvantage I've noticed with this card is its speed; I've particularly noticed that it tends to miss a lot, so it's advisable to boost its speed somehow, either with an archon or a monster with the ability that adds +1 to the speed of the entire team.
La desventaja que he notado en esta carta ha sido su velocidad, particularmente he notado que tiende a fallar mucho por lo que es recomendable potenciar de alguna forma su velocidad ya sea con un arconte o un monstruo con la habilidad que suma +1 a la velocidad de todo el equipo.

Kavor Skarn
Unfortunately, I only have one Archon for the Modern format since I don't plan on buying any more Rebellion cards than absolutely necessary. And although it pains me to say it, Rebellion cards are already outdated, and I don't want to invest in expensive Archons that are only going to be replaced in Wild. So for now, we'll have to make do with Kavor Skarn, but we'll take advantage of his Bloodline to boost the speed of units like Dragon Egg Forager in our lineup, while we'll use Night Reaper as our tank, mainly because of its evasion rate.
Por desgracia solo cuento con 1 arconte para el formato moderno ya que no pienso comprar más cartas Rebellion de lo estrictamente necesario y aunque duele decirlo Rebellion ya son cartas viejas y no pienso invertir arcontes costosos con los días contados para pasar a wild. Así que por ahora tendremos que con formarnos con Kavor Skarn pero aprovecharemos su linaje de sangre para potenciar la velocidad de unidades como Dragon Egg Forager en nuestra alineación, mientras que de tanque usaremos a Night Reaper principalmente por su tasa de evasión.

⚔️Rounds 1 - 3
The battle begins, and our opponent used a Flying Decoy. Although we weakened it, Aranduriel already missed its first attack. Being of Elven bloodline, it can't benefit from the speed boost the Archon provides. Luckily, at the start of round 2, Night Reaper quickly dispatched the Helheim Demon, allowing Aranduriel to eliminate the enemy Black Widow's defense. In round 3, we lost our tank, but we got our revenge by eliminating the enemy healer and leaving them with only two units: Grimbardum Fighter, who was quickly eliminated by Night Reaper, and Black Widow, who was finally eliminated by Aranduriel in round 4. It was a hard-fought victory, but one that clearly needed to boost my team's speed to be truly effective.
Comienza la batalla y nuestro oponente usó un señuelo volador y aunque lo debilitamos, Aranduriel ya fallo su primer ataque al ser de linaje elfo no puede beneficiarse de la velocidad que confiere el arconte. Por suerte, al comenzar el round 2 Night Reaper se encarga de despachar rápidamente al Helheim Demon para que entonces Aranduriel pueda eliminar la defensa del Black Widow enemigo. En el 3er round perdemos a nuestro tanque pero cobramos venganza eliminando al sanador enemigo y dejándolo con sólo 2 unidades: Grimbardum Fighter que es rápidamente eliminado por Night Reaper y Black Widow que es finalmente eliminado por Aranduriel en el 4to round. Fue una victoria un tanto sufrida pero que claramente necesitaba de potenciar la velocidad de mi equipo para que fuera realmente efectivo.
The addition of Aranduriel and Captain Fellblade to our lineup has been remarkable. I added Fellblade for fun and because she's so cheap now, and in short, the damage they can inflict on the backline, along with Saltwater Mage, is significant. I need to add more Dragon-class cards to better utilize Aranduriel. It teams up well with Dragon Egg Forager, but with a legendary card like Chuma Marandu, I can achieve even better results. With that, I conclude this week's social media challenge, friends, but I'll likely continue buying more epic cards from the Conclave set. As I add them to my modern deck, I'll review them in future posts. Good luck and long winning streaks!
Ha sido notable la incorporación de Aranduriel y Captain Fellblade a nuestra alineación. En el caso de Fellblade lo hice por diversión y por lo barato que ya esta en el mercado, y en resumen es mucho el daño que con Saltwater Mage son capaces de hacer juntas a la retaguardia. Por su parte necesito sumar más cartas de clase dragon para aprovechar mejor a Aranduriel , hace buen equipo con Dragon Egg Forager pero con una carta legendaria como Chuma Marandu puedo lograr mejores resultados. Con esto concluyo el social media challenge de esta semana amigos, pero es muy probable que siga comprando más cartas épicas de la edición Conclave, a medida que las vaya sumando a mi mazo moderno, las iré reseñando en futuras publicaciones.
