Hello Friends,

It's festival time with Splinterlands as it's either adding more clients and exchanges or making changes one after another to make it more user friendly and adding new features.
Well, here I am with a battle involving Pirate Archer for the Weekly Challenge SHARE YOUR BATTLE.
I specifically want to share this battle as I felt it a bit interesting one without healing ability and a battle involving Target Practice ability so as to have all the magic and ranged monsters targeting magic, ranged and no attack monsters from the second line.

Pirate Archer, one of the earliest introduced rewards card monster belonging to Water Splinter is a Rare ranged attack monster with Blast ability available from level 1.
What I like most about this monster is, it just costs 2 MANA and can reduce combined health of 3 (2+1) when it's able to hit both the monsters it attacks because of blast ability.

So, what are the different features of this monster like speed, ranged attack and health? We can see the details from above table.
It's not one of those big monsters like Javelin Thrower or a Peacebringer, it has just 1 ranged attack to start with which can get max to 2 from level 5 and it's speed is moderate as well with health as well on lower side starting with 2 and can get to max of 4.
BUT, what makes this monster more usable is the fact that, it just costs 2 MANA and because of blast, it can attack 2 monsters reducing 3 health i.e. 2 from first monster it hits and 1 from the second monster.
I find it particularly useful when there are armors on and this can reduce one armor each from 2 monsters and helps other non piercing monsters to attack to reduce health.

Battle and Lineup:

As I said, it's an interesting battle, you can see from the lineup and the rulesets from above screenshot.
It's a battle with just 20 MANA and Healed Out means, no healing for the monsters and Target Practice ability makes all magic and ranged monsters to attack second line magic, ranged and no attack monsters.
It's one of those battles where the second line needs to be stronger in terms of health since Target Practice battle and also have monsters which can give good magic and ranged attack.
Here are the details of the lineup I used keeping an eye on Target Practice ruleset.

Lineup:

1. Spineback Turtle:

image.png

Knowing that, most of the monsters will be targeting second line monsters, I used this monster with thorn ability to counter attack the front melee monster since it also has those 4 armors and good enough health of 6.

2. Kelp Initiate:

image.png

minimum health and maximum usage is what made me to use this monster at second position to give more time for other magic and ranged monsters to attack as part of Target Practice.

3. Mermaid Healer:

image.png

Costing just 3 MANA, this monster gives 2 magic attack and particularly useful in these kind of low MANA battles.

4. Ice Pixie:

image.png

Another less cost, but good enough magic attack of 2 is what makes this monster good for such battles unless opponent has a monster with magic reflect.

5. Naga Windmaster:

I just wanted to check the ranged monsters since this is a Target Practice battle and this monsters helped to reduce the attack by 2 since opponent had 2 ranged attack monsters and that helped to win the battle. It also give useful 2 ranged attack.

6. Pirate Archer:

The theme monster, no need to explain much about this one of the only few monsters with 2 MANA cost, but powerful as all others.

Opponent used the lineup Lord Arianthus, Creeping Ooze, Furious Chicken, Brownie, Earth Elemental, Javelin Thrower which was a good one with placing 2 goo ranged monsters at the end of the lineup, but those 2 were the ones to get all the punishment because of Target Practice.

Battle:

Another low MANA battle which can get trickier as healing was also out of equation. But, low MANA monsters I used were good enough to pull a win from those 2 big hitting ranged monsters opponent had used.

Round 1:

The battle of Target Practice always focuses on second line monsters and in this battle Kelp Initiate from my side and Earth Elemental from opponent's side have to lose out being on targeted by all the magic and ranged attack monsters.

Round 2:

No casualties in this round since Javelin Thrower is the only one to attack from opponent's lineup and it kept evading when it was hit by monsters I used.

image.png

Round 3:

This round witnessed both Mermaid Healer and Javelin Thrower losing out and that means there will be shifting in the attack focused onto front monsters.

image.png

Round 4:

The usage of Lord Arianthus at the front by opponent means, the melee and magic monsters will keep losing health when they attack it.
But, the 4 remaining monsters were good enough to reduce it's health to just One by end of this round.

Round 5:

Once Lord Arianthus got removed, it was just a matter of time to remove remaining 3 low health monsters and all of those were removed in this round.

Questions and Answers:

Did my strategy work? What will I try differently next time?

I could say yes, it worked well as this was a Healed Out* and Target Practice battle and the lineup I used supported that.
What I could have tried differently? I can't really think of any other better option.

Do I like the PIRATE ARCHER? Why or why not?

Ofcourse I like it a lot for it's low MANA cost and blast ability.
But, frankly speaking, I am not using this much now as compared to earlier days.

That's some short but interesting battle and nice lineups from both sides. Getting a win was satisfying for me.

Thank you and Have a good day :)

Wise use of monsters, guessing the opponent. Nice battle.

Thanks @rehan12, yeah, bit different lineup, but effective one.
