These Efreet Were Made for Blocking ... and That's Just What They'll Do: Weekly Battle Challenge w/ Tournament, Giveaway

Card First Impressions

Firstly, if you aren't playing Splinterlands yet click here. Secondly, Efreet elder seems like a fine and dandy counter to ranged creatures. Particularly, magic oriented ranged creatures and minions. WIth phase and a very very high speed (especially if in last stand super saiyan mode) Efreet elder can be a monster especially if leveled up to its higher levels where it has 4 speed. Meaning in last stand that's speed 8 and being able to dodge magic in addition to this allows for quite a bit of tankiness against magic monsters. And with 8 hp, last stand, and costing 6 mana it is rather tanky for the mana cost even at lvl 1. However this card will not usually be used to it's ideal last stand effectieness aside from lower cost lineups. It can still block many hits to the back line or sniper primary position. Given that untamed ha left many players with cards with these abilities.

Strategy and Placement

In the battle located here. You can see I placed Elder Eftreet in the backline to absorb some damage due to potential sneak creatures and low and behold there is a sand worm in the backlines attempting to wreak havoc upon my minions.

efreet fight 1.png
In this case thanks to the high output of damage from zodin yaku buffing and all ranged backline (sometimes a very risky play) the front line was able to come down before the sand worm could eat the team one by one gobbling them in one or two bites. The chicken and efreet backline shield aside. My opponent expected me to have a magic heavy lineup as heavy make with Alaric, or any faction can indeed be possible, and at 1 speed to be devastating in this ruleset. In this case I used some reliable low speed fire cards buffed with blast. For this lineup it was a clase cannon protected by two heavy tanks in the bank. Which resisted the heavy anticipated backline siege from the enemy.

Sand worm got two hits hit killing only Efreet elder, before Sand worm was positioned in the front line, and with this ruleset being reverse speed he was easy prey for highland archer and ettin spearman. Overall I woould say efreet elder does better as a last stand explosive damage dealer in lower cost line ups. What usually happens here in higher mana rulesets is that he can be used as a shielf or in fog of war (excellent last stand ruleset), a sort of final boss.

Talking Tidbits & Conclusion

Efreet elder is well specialized but highly useful tool for the fire splinter. While not being good in every situation. Efreet elder brings a lot to the table against magic, and as a last stand powerhouse in certain situations. I woud say this is a good card and worthy of being in your collection.

Elder Efreet as a Last Stand Death Machine

Elder efreet, in the right perfect storm of circumstances can in fact use last stand and effectively obliterate the enemy team... This is one of those times.

Hm... I love the idea of Last Stand, but can never seem to get efreet elder to work for me. After reading this though, maybe I'll give him another shot for when it feels like I might need a tank in the back.

I will do a follow up post or add to this post if I pull of the last stand efreet in one of my recent battles. Just to show the occasions it actually happens, it's once in a blue moon. But Elder Efreet is a terrifying werewolf on those moonlit nights. Welcome to the tournament

I actually did it here too if you want to check it out

Nice work. Efreet Elder is not my jam but I probably just need more practice.

I would hope your jam would be something much more tangible and edible, but as far as playstyle goes. I understand. Welcome to the tournament

Thanks for the tip on how to use the elder efreet. I have yet to try him even once to be honest since I have just started this season :) But the last stand ability is something I remember from Kron+llama combo.

If you are into tips and strategy talks I usually try to do at least one a week and other cools things. Consider following if you have just started, there are many giveaways and more. Welcome to the arena

I am trying to backread your tips, lots to read :)

I use Elfreet sometimes as a last stand option. Works very well but as you said only occasionally.

Sadly @kursen you were too slow this week. Someone else already guessed where it came from (These Boots are Made For Walkin' by Nancy Sinatra). But don't be sad, mentioning a legendary rockband still permits you preentry into the tournament. Bring your A-game, you wouldn't want it to be your own stairway to heaven would you? Keep Summoning and See You in the #Splinterlands
