BATTLE LINK -- January 28, 2025 -- Day 28 of 365 vs. @megakyodaibanrai
Well, it's been a few days since my last BOTD post, but I won't let a busy schedule stop me from getting caught up and posting one battle from each day this year. For a fun change of pace, today's battle comes from a recent @sps.dao Tidalring Modern Bronze Invitational Gold Foil event. I don't play much at Bronze League anymore, but the payouts are still worth my time in GF events, and it's fun to interact with these cards at the lower levels.
The 60-mana battle had three rulesets: Little League, Lost Magic, and Blood and Sunder. Two elements were excluded: Life and Death. With Dragon available, my opponent and I easily decided to use Quix, since it is the only Dragon summoner playable in Modern Little League (4 mana or less). Without magic available and likely assuming we would each use Quix, we both opted for sneak-based lineups with only melee attackers and left our range monsters on the bench with the magic monsters.
My @shield-of-glory guildmate Mega😺 chose a Dragon pairing with Water and jammed four sneak attack monsters plus two melee attackers for my tank. Interestingly, they put the shield monster Chaos Rear Guard as the front guard instead and didn't have much sneak defense besides the flying evasion of Pecalor Bandit.
I had different plans and ensured a durable shielded tank and a strong sneak defense for my backline. Enter today's featured card, the Chaos Legion soulbound reward epic Clockwork Aide. This null attack monster is a great option to play as a rear guard because its huge 8 armor is great at stonewalling melee and ranged sneak attacks.
It also has the added benefit of attracting any opportunity attacks its way since it only has 1 health to go with its 8 armor at Level 2. The swiftness ability is great too, speeding my whole team up to help me get my attacks in before my opponent.
I went with Water's enemy element and supported Dragon with Fire, giving me the chance to select two 3-power attackers in my lineup: Night Stalker and Mana Warden. Night Stalker was a beast, dealing big chunks of damage for a Little League Bronze battle. Mana Warden didn't need to lift a finger but still served its purpose by giving my tank shield.
When the dust settled, I still had all six monsters on the battlefield, while Mega's team was vanquished. Only three of my monsters could attack based on my lineup compared to all six of my opponent's monsters. But it was my strategy lineup defense that turned the tide. Mega's team couldn't punch through the 8 armor of Clockwork Aide even with four sneak attackers. Up front with its high speed, Nimbledook Scout used the shield from Mana Warden to blank Chaos Rear Guard and outlast the reach attacks from Tide Biter.
At the end of the event, Mega and I ended up in the same 5th to 8th prize bracket for a tasty 540.2 SPS payday. Sorry I kept you out of the Top4 @megakyodaibanrai, maybe next time! 😸
