Speed can be an underrated stat, I faced a Pyre with my malric and not only did he slow me down by one using the ooze - he had flame imp with swiftness giving his monsters a total of +2 speed.
I couldn't make a hit and they tore us apart!

+3 if you count Pyre +1 to speed
Pyre + Imp = Speed + 2, Ooze my speed -1 - total difference of 3 and it really had an effect, the spark pixies can't be touched!
Don't forget Serpentine Soldier. Fire Splinter is built for speed!
