Splinterlands Suggestions

I really like Splinterlands the game, the team behind it and the decentralization grand vision.

I’ve been lurking in the shadows for years, and in the meantime I’ve seen crypto and crypto games taking some odd turns.

I feel bad and blame myself for not doing my part to help.

Let’s try to change that.

In this post I want to give some suggestions to improve the game, that I haven’t seen mentioned before.

But firstly, I’d like to sing some praises to the team for creating an awesome game, that has been around for 5 years. (Happy birthday, Splinterlands!)

That is an incredible feat.

Also, appreciate the team for being so transparent and honest, something that we don’t see that often.

And overall, for being the best crypto game project out there. Again, incredible.

However, even with all the amazing work, it is far from the ideal crypto game.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it is possible yet. The technology is not ready.

While I have many suggestions to help improve the game, on this post let’s focus on 2 that might be relevant for upcoming changes.

  • Guild Badges

Imho the main issue with guilds is that being a member implies fighting brawls and receiving building rewards.

It creates this weird scenario where you can’t invite your friends or new players to your guild…

Then the solutions is to have multiple guilds under the same umbrella, and chat over Discord.

I know guild points are coming and while it will help with some issues, it doesn’t address the main one.

So I’d like to present an idea that could complement that.

Remove the members limit, however, building benefits are not applied to everyone.

Members can then buy something (e.g. a badge) that would give them access to those benefits.

This removes the need to create a bunch of guilds and the hassle of managing their connections, or creating guild alliances to circumvent that.

And actually allow people that want to play together to be, well, together.

  • Decouple SPS staking from battles

Regarding the upcoming change where players will have to stake SPS to earn ranked rewards.

Again, why does it have to be coupled together?

There is a reward pool, and currently we can tap into it if we have cards to play.

Now it will change to needing cards + SPS.

Overall I think this change is great - at least the part of needing to have SPS to get rewards.

But, can’t we just split the reward pool? From 100% to cards to x% to cards and y% to SPS.

It essentially accomplishes the same thing without players having to calculate more exponential formulas, on top of an already very convoluted game.

Am I overlooking something? Let me know.

Have a great day.
