SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! - [Centauri Mage]

Hello everyone! It's a new week and a new battle challenge. Missed the previous one, but made up with this one. And this time it's earth splinter and a magic monster - Centauri Mage.

As a side note I do enjoy the earth splinter as together with Mylor it brings easy victories to unsuspecting or unprepared opponents.

But it's not the point for this article as our star is the mage itself.

It's a rare card with a bit of a high mana cost to use - 7. But it has some nice stats even at level one. 1 magic attack, 3 speed, and 9 health which is quite good, and this card can work at times even as an off-tank. Plus she has return fire ability which basically are thorns for ranged monsters.

I tried to set this card in an off-tank position for this battle, but it didn't come to that as my tank did the job well and survived until the very end.

As this card costs quite a lot of mana then it's more suited for higher mana cost battles.

I haven't used this card in my previsou battle setups, but it's allways nice to try something out and learn what it can do.

All in all the battle was a success. But let's leave it for later. First, we'll look at the monster decks.

On to the match itself.

Rules:

  • Lost Legendaries
  • 23 Mana
  • Fire, Watter, Earth, Dragon splinters allowed

It was a mid mana match and it looked like my opponent will mostly throw magic users against me. I could have used Owster Rotwel for it to make it easier, but decided to go with earth splinter as I wanted to do this battle chalange.

My team:

(Summoner) Mylor Crowling

This is a widely used summoner from earth deck. And to no surprise I'm using him too from time to time. The thorns damage for many players is too much as they haven't prepared to counter him.

(Spot 1) Unicorn Mustang

My main tank. Has high melee damage and void ability which is perfect if the opposing team uses magic.

As I'm using a level 2 summoner then I went with a level 2 version of him for more survivability by having +1 to health.

(Spot 2) Centauri Mage

As this card also has high health, plus is a magic user that can attack from first possition then I set her at second possition so she could take the extra hits in case my main tank went down.

(Spot 3) Wood Nymph

A healer is always a good choice to add to your team to increase its survivability. On top of that she also has magic attack, so even better. Naturally placed this card after my two tanks.

(Spot 4) Creeping Ooze

I like to hit first thus already gaining a small edge over the opponent and as I had single mana point to use then I naturally added this little fellow to the team. If you didn't know then he gives the opponents team -1 speed for all monsters.

(Spot 5) Furious Chicken

And to finish it off in the last spot I placed the trustworthy chicken to take the extra hit if the opponent used a sneak monster. If you have a spot left to be filled always take the chicken, he costs no mana and can make a difference by taking a hit before your damage dealers.

As you can see my team is semi-protected on all fronts. In the front, there is enough health to take a bit of a beating. Plus there are two useful abilities. Void - which will help me to reduce the magic damage, and return fire - which will give ranged damage dealers a bit of a beating back. And of course, there are also throns that will punish melee damage dealers.

With this setup, I was quite confident that I'll win this match as I thought that my opponent will bring a magic-oriented deck.

But what did my opponent bring to the match, lets have a closer look.

Oponents team:

I got what I anticipated - a melee damage dealer in the front and the rest filled with magic monsters.

Owster Rotwell could have been a better choice for this match but as I needed a battle for the weekly challenge then I decided to go with this setup which should have worked just as well.

Spot 1: Serpand Of Eld [lvl 1]
Spot 2: Medusa [lvl 1]
Spot 3: Ice Pixie [lvl 1]
Spot 4: Enchanted Pixie [lvl 1]
Spot 5: Elven Mystic [lvl 1]

The battle took only 4 rounds. Let's take a look at what happened.

round1.png

After round 1 the opponent's tank was already dead with just 1 health point remaining while my frontal tank was doing just great with 7 hit points remaining.

round2.png

During round two my damage dealers dealt with the only melee attacker the opponent had and all it was left were the squish magic monsters.

round3.png

During round three my team decimated what was left of the magic monsters and left the opponent with a single monster in round four while my team was still in full force.

round4.png

So, all in all, this went very well. The Centauri Mage didn't get a lot of saying in the battle but it did its part by chipping away opponents hit points round by round.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

The strategy worked just perfectly as at the end of the battle my team was still standing in a full lineup with just a dent in tanks hit points.

I could have used the death splinter and Owster Rotwell as a summoner to punish the magic damage dealers but this worked equally well.

Do you like the Centauri Mage? Why or why not?

This card did really well but in this match, it didn't come to the use of return fire ability. So while not shining in this battle I'll most likely use her in other situations where the opponent is more range-oriented.

It's a bit costly card to use so I find it more useful in higher mana battles where I'll definitely check her out.

All in all a fun match where I used a card that I haven't picked up before in my decks.
