SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! - [GRUMPY DWARF]

Hello everyone!

It's a new week and a new battle challenge. This time it's the old and rusty Grumpy Dwarf.

He comes from the neutral splinter, so he can be combined with any summoner. Has reach ability thus in standard battle conditions that in most cases would mean spot number 2 as he does not have main tank stats.

Later on at level 5 he gains an interesting ability - Enrage which increases his speed and attack power. Feisty little dwarf.

But even with that it's a bit slippery as he does not gain that much survival stats to stay in the game much longer.

So it's like - hit hard and hit fast.

I haven't used him much in my battle setups as I found other starter cards more useful, but as it's the weekly battle challange, then I just had to use him and get a feel for this card.

And in the end it went rather well. But lets leave it for later. First we'll look at the monster decks.

On to the match itself.

Rules:

  • Standard
  • 30 Mana
  • All splinters allowed

It was a rather high mana battle which allowed all the splinters, thus making it harder to predict what my opponent will actually run with. I was expecting a match with melee damage dealers though. So I made my deck as follows:

My team:

(Summoner) Zintar Mortalis

I picked this summoner from death splinter as he comes with a great debuff for melee heavy teams reducing their attack power by one.

He's one of my favourites in bronze league as I get quite a few matches filled heavily with melee attack power.

(Spot 1) Haunted Spirit

Next up in spot 1 I placed my main tank. Good attack and what's more important - he has self healing ability which allows to stay him in the game longer.

This probably is one the most used cards in death splinter class.

(Spot 2) Grumpy Dwarf

Next up is our star of this week - Grumpy Dwarf. In this battle I placed him in the second spot to deal some damage as he has the reach ability.

And secondly he could take a hit or two if my main tank would go down preventing my opponent going straight to my damage dealers.

(Spot 3) Screaming Banshee

Next up comes this epic magic damage dealer. This card has only one hit point so I had to place her in the middle of my deck and hope that the opponent did not pick a monster with snipe ability.

But with 3 mana to use it she has some decant attack stats to go under the skin of some monsters with shield stats.

(Spot 4) Soulstorm

Next up I added another heavy hitter to help previous monsters to decimate opponents frontal tank.

This card also has rather low health stats, but it compensates that with 3 ranged damage and high speed.

On top of that it also has flying ability thus making it harder to kill by melee or ranged attacks.

(Spot 5)Twisted Jester

Also one of my most loved cards death splinter. Twisted Jester has nice all-around attack and survival stats for its mana cost.

I picked this card as it has snipe ability so it could go for opponents back row where there should be some squishy monsters.

Placed it more to the back to take the hits of sneak monsters before they go for my low health damage dealers.

(Spot 6) Mantoid

Finally, last spot I filled with this neutral splinter ranged damage dealer. This card also has snipe ability.

As this one has the most health I placed it at the vary back of my deck so he could take the hits from sneak monsters.

As you can see I focused heavily on ranged monsters in this match. In the middle of my deck there were my most squishy cards. While at the back I placed ranged damage dealers that could take a few hits before going down.

On top of that I picked 2 monsters with snipe ability hoping to decimate the back row of my opponent be fore it can to too much damage to me.

I was just hoping that my two frontal monsters could take the heat coming from the front and hold them off long enough so my ranged damage dealers would close the match.

But what did my opponent bring to the match, lets have a closer look.

Enemy's Team:

I got what I hoped for - a team heavily focused on melee monsters. Plus there were no monsters with the snipe ability. So my damage dealers placed in the middle were relatively safe. That is if my front line would stay alive long enough.

Shieldbearer in the front coupled with Tyrus Paladium (+1 hield) and Divine healer made we worry a bit but I think I had enough firepower to crack him down fast.

Another interesting card that I often use myself from light splinter is the Silvershield Knight. He gives +1 melee attack to all melee monsters on the team. But it was perfectly countered by my summoner - Zintar Mortalis (-1 melee attack).

Spot 1: Shieldbearer [lvl 1]
Spot 2: Silvershield Knight [lvl 1]
Spot 3: Divine Healer [lvl 1]
Spot 4: Elven Cutthroat [lvl 1]
Spot 5: Feral Spirit [lvl 1]
Spot 6: Peacebringer [lvl 1]

The battle was finished in 5 rounds. Lets take a look at what happened.

round1.png

As my opponent had Shieldbearer which has taunt ability my monsters had to focus on him at first. It went very well, at the start of the second round he lost all his shields and had only 5 health remaining.

Thanks to my summoner the opponents stealth monsters did not do much. My Mantoid was still going strong with 3 health left.

round2.png

During the second round the Shieldbearer couldn't take all that was being thrown at him and was done for. My monsters now could focus on other targets.

round3.png

During rounds 3 and 4 my damage dealers decimated what was left of the opponents team while his monsters managed to take down my Mantoid. Hid did his part to secure other monsters further down the line.

round4.png

And round 5 was just a formality as the remaining card left on the opponents deck was a ranged damage dealer that couldn't make a move.

So, all in all this went very well. My front line took the beating at the start but stood strong till the the very end. And you what! Even the old and grumpy dwarf lived to tell the tale of victory. A round of applause for him!!!

The back of my deck also performed well. Hit hard when they needed to and did the dirty work of taking hits for others.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

During this match my strategy worked just perfectly as the opponents monsters filled out my requirements for the win:

  • heavy melee monsters
  • no snipe damage dealer
  • no magic oriented splinter

Because of that my team had a good chance to secure this win.

If the opponent would have picked a magic oriented splinter I would first swap my summoner with Owster Rotwell to deflect a part of it. Also most likely in a bit different scenario I would swap my low health damage dealers for something else.

Do you like the GRUMPY DWARF? Why or why not?

I still have mixed feelings about this little fellow. He did his part in this matchup and even survived till the very end.

But with a cost of 4 mana to use him, his stats at level 1 are lacking though for any serious use if he would to get to number 1 position.

He'd be a good damage taker with that 1 shield point if a strong melee attack would come to him thus giving more time for my ranged damage dealers to deal with the situation.

All in all a fun match where threw in 2 neutral monsters. And the Grumpy Dwarf showed me that he can do his part too.
