After showcasing the Chaos Dragon in the most recent Dragon-themed challenge, this time around I have chosen to showcase a Monster which is part of the Dragon line-up, but again as in the case with the Djinn, is not an actual dragon. The being in question is the Carnage Titan. The Carnage Titan was one of the most airdrops we got in the pre-Legendary Summoner airdrop era and it became a staple of the Dragon Splinter the moment it appeared in the meta. There is something really exciting about beating on your opponents mercilessly until they are reduced to the components they were made of.

Now before getting into the stats discussion of the Monster, let's have a sneak peek into its LORE.

So, the Carnage Titan is yet another golem running loose and wreaking havoc all over Praetoria. Just what the peoples of Praetoria need right now...

image.png

Alright, we've got some idea of what the Carnage Titan is, after glancing at its lore. Let us now have a look at its stats and abilities at different key levels.

image.png

  • It starts off with not one but with two of its signature abilities which make it the powerhouse it is - Reach and Double Stike. We are already well aware that Monsters with the Double Strike ability are already pretty meta-defining and when you pair that with the fact that it can attack from the second position thanks to Reach, you know that you have a true melee gem here. The fact that it also starts off with 7 armor and 8 life makes it also a great Tank.

  • At level 2 it gains it gains an additional +1 melee attack getting the total to 3. This is huge due to the fact that the attack of the monster basically goes from a total of 4 to 6.

  • At level 3 the Dragon wannabe Monster gains the Shield ability which reduces incoming melee and ranged (non-magical) attacks. This is the point where if you did not really think it is a good tanking Monster, you just cannot deny the fact any longer.

  • At level 4 which is the final level for the Titan, it gains one more attack brining its unbuffed total from 2x3 to 2x4. 2 additional attack is a pretty big deal for sure.

Now that we know what the card does (or doesn't do) at the different levels of play, let us have a look at the battle I have chosen to showcase.

<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BATTLE<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>

  • The line-up of the Battle and the Ruleset:

image.png

The rulesets for this battle are Holy Protection (all Monsters have the Divine Shield ability),Equal Opportunity (all Monsters have the Opportunity ability) and Noxious Fumes (all Monsters start the battle Poisoned). The mana budget is 99 which is the maximum amount possible so I can choose all most expensive Monsters I have available if I want to and if they fit my battleplan. Only Death and Dragon Splinters are available. I am obviously going to choose the Dragon Splinter as I want to showcase this week's Monster and my secondary Splinter will be Death - there's no other option so no surprise here. I am going to go with my faithful (now) level 4 Quix (I maxed him out literally 2 days ago). The battle takes place at the Diamond-league level.

image.png

image.png

The main tank for this battle will be Agor Longtail. It is a great taunt Monster and a definite must-play, in mu humble opinion, when the mana cap can accommodate it as it costs the whooping 15 mana, taking the crown for the most expensive (in terms of mana) Monster in the game from the Chaos Dragon. It has Flying, Taunt, Void Armor and Heal. Basically it is a perfectly well-rounded tank. No wonder its mana cost is so high.

image.png

image.png

The 2nd place in the line-up of course went to this week's protagonist - the Carnage Titan. After reading about the abilities of the Monster it is pretty self-explanatory why I put it in the 2nd spot so I don't think I need to repeat that again.

image.png

image.png

The 3rd place in the line-up goes to the Chaos Dragon. I have in this spot since it is a flying Monster (a true dragon) with a decent health pool and armor so it can evade a few hits or take a few hits if it has to. It also has the Blind ability in its arsenal. We know that every miss is important.

image.png

image.png

4th in the line-up is Legionnaire Alvar. Legionnaire Alvar is great at mitigating Magic Attacks, and even better at that if he has a support Monster behind him with the Resurrect ability as his significant Armor amount is brought back in full when the resurrection occurs. In the current circumstances, however, I have chosen to use him for his great armor amount and Giantkiller and Demoralize abilities. I am pretty certain they will come in handy against the line-up of the enemy.

image.png

image.png

Following immediately after is Arkemis the Bear. Arkemis has been a card I have really been enjoying playing ever since he got released as a promo card for Christmas. It has a large health pool, a good Melee Atttack value, and, of course, very nice abilities - Protect, Halving, Forcefield and Enrage. The additional armor he will provide this battle will definitely be relevant.

image.png

image.png

Last but definitely not least is Harklaw. I have it here for a few different reasons - to protect the backline from potential enemy Sneak Monsters with its Shield ability. It also has Demoralize which reduces the enemy Melee Attack value and most importantly it also stacks with Legionnaire Alvar's Demoralize, so that could prove to be vital for the outcome of the battle. But most importantly it has Immunity, which grants it immunity to one of the active rulesets - Noxious Fumes.

image.png

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:

  • So the Summoner I am going with for this battle is my very own Quix. I have just recently finally leveled him to level 4 as it was only last week when I decided to take a leap of faith in my potential to max my CL collection and decided to start doing that. My enemy is rocking a level 3 Quix so I should be at an advantage since my Quix is maxed out and the battle is in Diamond league. However, even though my Summoner is at level 4, four out of the six Monsters in my line-up are still at gold level, so I might have a slight advantage but that will definitely not be the key to winning this battle.

image.png

  • After 1 round of exchanging blows nothing substantial has occurred. There are still no deaths on either side. That's to be expected as all Monsters on both sides are very beefy and in addition to that they are immune to 1 hit thanks to the Holy Protection ruleset. However, the Noxious Fumes damage has not been applied yet this round (as in the beginning of any of the consecutive rounds), so the health totals of all Monsters will be effectively reduced by 2 before the battle resumes.

image.png

  • At the start of Round 3 there has been some development on the battlefield. The enemy Couerl Lurker has died and has been resurrected while my Agor Longtail is about to die of poison damage from the Noxious Fumes. Note that since it has been resurrected, the poison debuff is no longer present on the enemy Lurker.

image.png

  • Round 4 is here and the enemy Luker has demonstrated expert dodging and is somehow still alive at 1 hp. On the other hand, the enemy Oshuur Constantia was not so lucky and fell victim to a scatter-"breath" belched out by my Chaos Dragon. My Legionnaire Alvar will not live to participate in this round as he will lose his life to the poison debuff.

image.png

  • Round 5 - R4 seems to have been very eventful as a lot of Monsters have perished. Of the remaining ones, my Arkemis is about to lose his life to poison damage, following the fate of some of his brothers-in-arms.

image.png

  • Round 6 marks the approaching end of the battle. It is my Harklaw vs two Magic Attackers on the enemy side who both take poison damage, so the enemy Chaos Dragon will not live to kill off my Harklaw with its 3 Magic damage.

image.png

  • Round 7 finally it is again up to the poison damage to determine the winner and my Harklaw is the lucky survivor at 1 health and 1 shield. That's why I recruited him after all. This was a really close and fun battle.

image.png

  • I was curious to check what the supposed win % for this battle was according to Splintertools and it seems my chances were... 98%, wow! I don't know about you guys but the way this whole battle went definitely did not give me the vibes that I was the dominating side.

The Carnage Titan is a great card for the Dragon Splinter. It can single-handedly change the course of a battle by pummeling the enemy Monsters to death, and it gets even juicier if the battle has the Blast ruleset. It is usually a must-play in high-mana battles if the Dragon Splinter is your Splinter of choice. Its current price of $8.02 per BCX is not the lowest I have seen it being sold for but it is actually a part of the reward pool for the "FOMO February" promo on the SPLTV twitch channel right now, so what are you waiting for? Go and get yourself a BCX of the Carnage Titan today!
