BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! Fire and Regret

in Splinterlandslast year

I haven't got back into doing these Challenges after they changed it. It is a lot harder to get a good game of the rule set. I know that we can use other rulesets because the team understands that. Make sure you check out the challenge now isn't a bad time to earn a bit extra to buy cards. I am looking to start growing the Gold Steve account with the help the community gives us maybe some more funds time will tell on that.

The Fire and Regret rule set is one that stops a lot of good teams. It is time to talk about my secrets to win this game. Return fire for the whole team brings a few things to mind right away. Don't use archers. Be ready for magic attacks or for sneak/opportunity lineups. Yet some players have the cards to use armor and reflection shield to still show up with a pretty strong Yodin team. This is one of the amazing things about this game. It isn't clear at all what is going to come at you just from the ruleset. Mana cap and team selection will help guide you so that is what we really need to focus on to figure out what is coming our way.

The Match
2023-06-08 16_03_37-Splinterlands - Collect, Trade, Battle!.png

I played a lot today and this was my only Fire and Reget fight to pick from. 14 mana isn't great but we had a lot of teams that we could pick for. There is a good chance that I am fighting a bot in this match and glad to see I picked a good lineup for the match. Yet there are also a few key differences to talk about. I went with Thaddius This is to counter a magic team and lower health but also because it let me play the Windeku. I like that combo here because it gives me a counter to magic and melee teams. Next, I went with Life Sapper and with my last mana put Chaos Agent at the back to slow down a sneak lineup. Life Sapper only does 1 damage but now a refect won't make him kill himself. Chaos Agent might dodge a slow sneak but will at least let the life sapper attack once I hope if there is sneak out there. That is the idea of my team. What do you think of my choices? Well, the other team did close to the same thing but moved some stuff around. They went with the cheaper summoner so they could have the Bonesmith and put him last not worried about sneak giving more time to steal life. You can see my level advantage and speed is going to help a lot in this fight. You can watch the full replay here

Round 1
2023-06-08 16_03_55-Splinterlands - Collect, Trade, Battle!.png

With the summoner buffs in place, my advantage becomes more clear. Our damage is equal but I have more HP up front without any misses I should be good. Will RNG be a problem? Well, not in round 1 everyone hits, and with the thorns damage I leave his tank 3 health and that is an important number while mine is at 5.

Round 2
2023-06-08 16_04_18-Splinterlands - Collect, Trade, Battle!.png

This is where speed and leveled-up cards matter a lot. My attacks with go first and his Windeku will die before it can attack. That leaves my Windeku 2 health at the end of the round. If he had one more HP then it would have attacked and killed mine. Given it would have died to thorns but still that matters a lot.

Round 3

By now it is easy to see this game is over. If he had leveled cards maybe this would be different. Yet I will kill the chaos agent and even if I missed the Bonesmith my life sapper would pull ahead in hp and set me up for a win even if crazy RNG made me miss twice when I have the speed and level advantage.

Round 4
2023-06-08 16_04_55-Splinterlands - Collect, Trade, Battle!.png

Round 4 is where it all comes to an end. Maybe you can see that if I missed with the Windeku he would kill him and then we would get locked into 1 damage till fatigue but that didn't happen. I also would have still won that game because my life sapper is at 5 hp and about to go to 6 before the trading would start. But that didn't happen my Windeku hit and we ended it this round

In the end, my level advantage made up for the fact that his line up was a little better for the head-to-head. This isn't always true. I lose a lot of matches to level 1 lineups it is a bit sad. I for sure need to get a few cards that pick on me. Still, the secrets are out at least mine. Be ready for mages and thorns at low levels and don't sleep on Yodin with armor in higher leagues. I hope you enjoyed my post. Make sure you sign up to play and you can do posts like this also.
