Calculation of flying monsters power (1 Free ability?!).

in Splinterlands2 years ago

Introduction:
The hypotheses is that there is a powercreep in splinterlands.
To prove this we need a way to quantify the monster power.
This is a work in progress:

This part is about quantify the power of flying monsters.

The power of flying monsters:
+25% chance of evading physical attacks have .

What's good to know, that those abilities compound.
If the opponents monster with 1 speed attacks your flying monster with both and 6 speed (a speed difference of 5, 50% miss chance). The opponent has a 75% chance to miss!

Assume every monster has place for a ability, i think flying is less powerfull than shielded.
Therefor this ability should be free available for all monsters.

The rules to calculate monster power so far:
Basic stats:

  • 1 health is 1 monster power.
  • 1 armor is 2 monster power any additional armor is worth 0.5 monster power.
  • 1 Speed is 0.5 monster power.
  • 1 attack is 0 monster power,
  • 2 attack is 2 monster power,
  • 3 attack is 3.5 monster power any additional attack is worth 0.5 monster power.
  • Rare monsters are worth 0.5 and Epic monsters 1 more monster power.
  • Neutral monsters adds 1 monster power for flexability.
  • Ranged monsters are worth 2 additional monster power.
  • Ranged monsters are worth 4 additional monster power.
  • 1 mana cost is roughly 1.4 monster power

Ability:

  • Shield, 4 - 0.5 * mana cost, free from 8 mana.
  • Void, 4 - 0.5 * mana cost, free from 8 mana.
  • flying, free from all monsters.

I'm really happy that the monster power curve overlaps with the normal curve, without correction!
This confirms that monster with the flying ability have the same stats are monsters without ability.

This time i had to remove a monster so strong it skewed the whole curve:

This card is crazy expensive and will soon be rotated out, so let's leave it out.

Cards to mention:
Regal peryon The high speed makes flying even better, it might make a good off tank.
Sea genie is below curve, this shows not all magic monsters are above curve. Magi of chaos is already a better choice.
Elemental phoenix On level 2 it gets explosive, that's wild, but i never seen him in action. anybody has experience with this monster ?

Final thoughts:
I think all monsters have abilities naturally from a certain mana cost.
Flying might simply be not the most powerfull ability a monster can have.

We might need a ability tier list to find out what a strong ability is, before diving into all the power curves.
I think this needs to be done in a video format to be enjoyable, anybody know how to get a great video contect creator to make this? @luke-wtp
