Translating the Name
I ran both parts of the name through some translators and discovered:
- Mahkah
In Malay: Court (as in a royal or legal court)
In Sioux (Native American origin): Earth
- Hemlig
In Swedish: Secret or Hidden
Now that’s interesting.
Possible Interpretations
Depending on which language lens you view it through, the name could mean:
"Secret Court" – A hidden arbiter of judgment. Could Mahkah be passing sentence on her enemies from the shadows?
"Earth’s Secret" – Perhaps she holds ancient knowledge tied to nature, or serves as a guardian of the land’s hidden power.
"The Hidden Tribunal" – A spiritual judge or mystic enforcer. Given the minotaur archetype’s mythological ties to trials and labyrinths, it fits.
These meanings feel right at home in the Earth Splinter, where power often lies in natural balance, hidden knowledge, and ancient forces.
Attributes to Dispense Justice
Opportunity – Mahkah does not waste time with the strong. She strikes at the weak—the scourge—passing swift judgment upon those who fail to hide their faults.
Deflect – Those who dare to challenge her must first reckon with their own guilt. Mahkah turns knows their futile traps, as if nature itself refuses to allow injustice.
Scavenger – For every fallen soul, she grows stronger. Justice does not waver—it feeds off imbalance and Nature prevails.
Triage – The arbiter is not heartless. She tends to the wounded among her allies, pensuring they may continue their fight.
Nature may not be quick to act. Patience and Balance - renowned. Yet, its roots have a long memory and Nature will Prevail!
