Splinterlands: In a battle with the same exact lineup, levels are important

in Splinterlands17 hours ago

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I had the higher-level monsters

Why levels matter?

Above is the current attack order in Splinterlands. This can be found here. There are four factors that affect the order, and they are speed, attack type, rarity, and level. While level might be the last of these factors, it's also something people have to consider as attacking first gives you an advantage as you can deal damage before your opponent. Over time, this will let you kill off monsters faster and reduce the damage you take.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Keep Your Distance and Rise of the Commons. This means that no melee monsters can be used and only common or rare cards can be used. There is also 55 mana available, and I can use fire, earth, or dragon splinter.

This is a simple ruleset because you aren't allowed to use melee monsters, and you are limited to common/rare cards. This means that you have to create a lineup with some decent tanks up ahead; otherwise, you can lose your monsters quite fast.

Total Mana:29

My strategy is built using monsters up front to tank the damage while the rest of my lineup deals damage. There are only so many cards available, so I tried to make the most of my mana.

Spellmonger is my first choice as a tank because it can't attack and it has a low mana cost. After that is Time Bandit as my backup tank due to its high health. After that are my two ranged monsters, and I used the higher health monster in front because it would be able to survive longer and give my last monster some chance to deal more damage.

Round 1

At first glance, both my opponent and I used the same lineup. However, I have the advantage because the level of my cards is higher than my opponent's. My monsters will deal damage first and they have higheer stats. My opponent will lose their damage dealers faster than me.

Round 5

I lost one monster, but my opponent has lost 2. The rest of my opponent's monsters are ranged, so my opponent is limited in damage. There is no way I can lose this match anymore.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds like I thought I would.

Conclusion

The battle this time played out exactly like I planned. I had higher-level monsters than my opponent, and this resulted in my monsters attacking first, and they also had higher stats. With all of this in mind, there wasn't anything my opponent could do. Levels matter, so you should increase the levels if you can for that slight advantage.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
