Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Going the Distance rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Silenced Summoner, Odd Ones Out, and Going the Distance. This means that only range monsters can be used, summoners have no abilities and only odd mana monsters can be used. There is also 46 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, water, death or dragon splinter.
The summoner I chose to use this time is Quix the Devious. The summoner effects are removed due to the ruleset but I used it so I can have access to dragon cards and for the level cap.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Quix the Devious | 4 | Summoner | |
War Chaang | 7 | 1st | Melee monster |
Lava Launcher | 9 | 2nd | Close Range |
Venari Marksrat | 3 | 3rd | Martyr |
Gargoya Devil | 7 | 4th | Close Range and Flying |
Ash Mirage | 7 | 5th | Headwinds |
Rush Townsend | 9 | 6th | Ambush and Affliction |
Total Mana: | 46 |
I plan to use War Chaang first because having a melee monster can be useful if they have return fire. After that is Lava Launcher in the 2nd spot and Gargoya Devil in the 4th spot with close range. The martyr monster is to buff my close range monsters. After that is my last 2 damage dealers. One of which has headwinds to reduce my enemies range damage and the other has ambush and affliction.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this is my win. My opponent did not make the most of his mana. He may have the level advantage but he is only using reward cards. There is just no way for my opponent to deal enough damage because of headwinds. None of my enemies monsters have much health either so a few hits is all I need to reduce the damage that I take greatly.
I won the match later that round as I expected but I did not expect it to happen during the first round. The ambush took out a monster right away and I was able to land most of my attacks. It's one of the rare times that I see deathblow having an effect in the match because it took out the last monster.
Conclusion
The battle went exactly as I expected. My strategy worked but I wasn't expecting it to finish one exactly one round. I rarely see a match finish that fast when we consider the mana cap. My opponent just didn't play many cards because he didn't have enough cards available in his deck. Focusing on damage and reducing my opponent's damage was what led to this result. It's a rare case of a one round victory and I don't expect it to happen much in the future either.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.

Your opponent was smart but you were smarter
Keep it up!
The summoners did not add any buff or debuff, but you completely destroyed the opponent. It's one of those battles where you don't know that you'd win from the blast of the first round.
Yea. It was a win when I saw my opponent's lineup but I wasn't expecting it to be over in a single round.
