After watching the video I tried it out.
SplinterForge is a new game that came out in January. You can play the game using your Splinterlands cards. In addition to using the Splinterlands cards that you already own you can buy up Alpha Crates and Enhancement Bags to beef up your hero.
When you play the game, you're able to earn Forge or "Forgium" which is tradeable on the hive exchange and Tribaldex.
Forge is pegged at 1,000 per $, the same as DEC and at the time of writing this post it's trading right near that.
Instead of battling it out against other players you battle against a boss like Death
The boss starts with millions of life so it takes a huge group of people to take each boss down. If you can do at least a few hundred damage to the boss with your team then you earn approximately 12.5 forge.
Jeff @twothirdswizard shows a solid lineup in his video and with that framework for my team, I've been able to earn something like 12 cents on the game.

We've spent all of this time anxiously awaiting the release of Genesis Goals and Tower Defense while another team just slipped this right under our noses.
The game is mildly entertaining and rewarding. The matches aren't yet as fun to watch play out as a typical Splinterlands match and I haven't seen as much reason to vary my team much.
What do I do with this information and where is the game going?
First of all try it out. If you have a splinterlands collection and account the entry level to participate is 0. I rented a couple of the cards that Jeff recommended, but you don't even have to do that. I'm sure there are other combinations that are similarly effective and easy to find on YouTube.
I think it's only a matter of time before the bot farms exploit this game. The bots needed would be much simpler than the ones used in Splinterlands. The bots shouldn't directly effect your play but they will haul in enough Forge that either the price of Forge will go down or the game's forge output will drop or the creators will have to implement league cutoffs like Splinterlands does to try slowing them down. I think there will be some combination of those things.
I think this new game has already shown glimpses of the synergy it can have with Splinterlands, but I do worry about the parasitic potential. After Splinterlands has spent so much time and effort to stamp out low level bot farms, this new game looks ripe for their abuse.
After the price of Forge drops I think the Alpha Crates and Enhancement Bags will sell out. After that happens I think there will be more people putting in work with their in game heroes which have the potential to do major damage on these bosses. At that point I thing Splinterforge has a chance to develop it's own meta and a broader group of strategies.
I think there are a group of Splinterlands cards that will appreciate in value because of this game and I think the rental market for those cards will also see increases in price which should be great for the people who already own them.
