SPS, the Governance Token has just received a new Utility. Potentially it could be used as a point for Entry into the renowned Mavericks House should @leveluplifeph proposal pass. I would like to state for the record that I am in support of this change. I have made a lot of friends through the Mavs Chat however the negativity expressed on occasion is overwhelming, sometimes too toxic to give opinions with the fear of getting shut down in a rude and abrupt manner. It is important that we get new blood into the group so that there can be a new wave of ideas and innovations, which I feel is crucial for expansion purposes. Right now, there is no way that a person can become a Mav, and most people that have bought Chaos Packs, have either opened or sold them, do they still hold the requirement? Do we know whether they still hold assets, asset ownership is loyalty, the fact that you are loyal, that should allow you to have a voice, right? Secondly the major update to rank rewards will require SPS. I would like to express my thoughts regarding this. During the Town Hall, a lot of people were left quite confused. Although I do respect the Team and their decisions, I also have to look at it from a player’s stand point. I found it funny that there were a lot of OG Community Members stating that this was in the White Paper and that people had sufficient time to accumulate the required assets, and if they didn’t have it, they had ample time to do so before the change. I do not agree 100% with this. Perhaps for some, who have unlimited funds or the availability of loans and leveraging, this could be quite easy to achieve, however not everyone that plays Splinterlands is in the same situation.
I started this game in August 2021, I bought my first 1000sps at close to 1usd, I was there for the airdrops, I was there when the game was booming. I was there for the launch of Chaos Legion. I now have about 150,000 SPS spread across a few accounts, most of the SPS has been bought off the P2P and secondary markets. I also have 2 champion ready decks, my main boasting fully maxed out Chaos Legion & Rift Watcher Cards and key Promo and Untamed cards, as well as 2 Silver League Scholarship Accounts. I also have some Land and a Node.
I personally have invested what I think is a lot of “Dry Powder” into this game from buying cards, Buying SPS & DEC, staking SPS, going into liquidity pools, buying a node, promo cards as well as supporting various communities. Sometimes I feel as if “The Juice really wasn’t worth the Squeeze”. What I meant by this is the rewards that we are receiving during a season, does not justify the expenses incurred, especially when renting cards, paying for energy crystals and receiving minimal SPS from Chests being apparent factors, there is no doubt that we do this for the love of the game.
Now according to statements, I had ample time to accumulate the required SPS, I think not. The SPS gains from EOS has significantly been reduced. Splinterlands has released many things that require investment during a bear market, people have invested their money in everything which has caused frustration. I personally am pushing to meet the requirements for Champion 1 (According to the info provided that is 413,000 SPS), regardless whether the information received was disheartening, at least I now have a target to achieve. I only hope that the rewards received, will reflect the amount of investment.
Now people will say that you can rent or be delegated SPS, I do hope that I am not alone in saying this, but if you are personally well invested, the last thing that you want to do is share your rewards with anyone. Secondly will players be left in a situation like the current rental market where cards can be cancelled without consent of the rentee due to price change? Will this be the same as SPS? These are just some of the questions that I had been reflecting on and would love to hear some feedback. Feel free to Comment below.
In summarization, I will do what is required to remain competitive, If I am required to stake that much SPS, I will however, Time and availability of funds should be taken into consideration. For those who are outspoken in the community, I hope that you have the assets to back your comments as it will all be transparent soon enough. I for one will be ready for that time. I have been playing the game for close to four years and even like that I'm pretty short of the necessary SPS that are needed to reach my present league. So there is that. On the other hand, I believe that these changes will give a totall different value to SPS. Instead of selling the tokens, people might prefer to delegate them to powerful players and get a part of their rewards. If this leads to higher SPS prices, in the end we are all winners I believe. I agree with you on the aspect of long term goals and I am all for it as I believe in this game and the community and will strive to meet requirements if not surpass. I have seen it, it does not change my opinion. We will have to see once the change is implemented. There is little factual evidence to go by, the best thing to do is accumulate SPS right now while it is quite cheap besides there are other utility as we have been made aware of
