There has been a lot of news surrounding Pokemon's 30th anniversary. I am a fan of the game and did not realize it was that game has gone that far back, but here we are. In a few short years Splinterlands will hit its 10th year anniversary.
The longer the game exists the more people will have eyes on this game, but I was pondering the limitations of a digital game. There have been multiple crypto projects that have failed while others lost a ton of attention to the point where digital assets fall in value beyond recoverable.
Splinterlands has survived a lot of downturns but it has not sustained the demand drops. It remains to be seen the rise in prices for its cards and other assets. Now today with a short down time in maintenance I kind of ponder on the reality of holding digital assets have its limitations.
In Pokemon cards are physically traded and will always be accessible even if the internet goes down or even worse lost of electricity. However digital assets like Splinterlands is not the same. In terms of ownership the digital assets its ahead of the curve but what if the platform that gives owners access to the assets is down. This is a limitation that I do not know if Splinterlands can work around with.
I remember way back in the beginning in the earlier years Splinterlands did have physical cards but its not a standard.
Do not get me wrong there are multiple positive benefits for digital assets such as no physical storage required and organizing the assets is much more flexible and easy. I just think the loss of a platform that allows the use and access to digital assets limits people's willingness to invest into it. Maybe time will tell if this changes or tech can have ways to work around this challenge.
Until next time thanks for reading!!!

It's always going to be a factor in online games, but I think the blockchain does at least let you know who owns what. So I guess someone could still re-create things. It's reminding me of the stop killing games initiative.
