Not the Result I Wanted but Still Turning 1 Dec into 75 in Clove71's Tournament.

I played in the latest tournament hosted by @clove71 last night and for those of you who don't know she live streams them every weekday here on twitch. She also does giveaways in chat and giveaways for the most kills on streamraiders so even if you don't do well in the tournament or the tournament isn't your thing there is plenty going on where you can win free value. The other day someone won a gold foil Dax Paragon and there will be a gold foil legendary on the prize wheel for Friday's stream.

Let's check out the rules for this tournament.

1 DEC entry fee is the reason I play. That's risking so little with a potential to 500x, even if you only win 4 games like I did it's still 75x that.

With so many of the big splinterlands hosted tournaments deploying a modern format I've been playing as many modern tournies as I have the time for to practice up and learn more of the cards I'm not familiar with outside of the Chaos Legion set.

Novice League and No legendarys are good rules for me as I don't have many legendaries to work with and novice league means renting what I need for the tournament will be pretty cheap as you can only use level 1 cards.

Speaking of renting, here are a couple of cards I went for to improve my chances.

Mylor can be absolutely crucial as giving your whole team thorns can basically be a guaranteed win in some rule sets and a major advantage in others.

Brighton Bloom gives your whole team flying which is essential in the Earthquake game mode.

Fineas Rage isn't super important but I don't have him and he helps me win a battle. He's just better than Radiated Brute from the Chaos Legion set if you have the extra mana to spare.

Of course last but not least is our good pal Furious Chicken. I've talked about it before but just having a 0 mana fodder card for low mana games, of which you get plenty in novice, is really really nice.

With our rentals sorted out let's dive into the battles!

This is one of the rulesets I was talking about when going over Mylor as one of my rental cards. You can only use melee which means every single hit will reflect that thorns damage and Divine Shield means every unit will block an additional hit.

Disintegrator is a must play as well, his Demoralize reduces melee attack by 1, just making it take even longer to kill my guys and thus more thorns damage reflected. If you don't have Mylor or Earth is banned, Water is a good choice as Divine Shield + Armor (from Kelya's summoner bonus) is also a potent combo.

As expected the thorns damage is just so strong. Given the rules, I don't think there was any way I could lose against Water. Even if my opponent played Disintegrator themselves it's really the thorns damage that matters most.

In Noxious Fumes my main strategy is to play Tarsa and protect my Forgotten One to keep him as healthy as possible. He's a strong melee monster with Immunity which protects him from the Poison.

If I can keep him alive and well he should be able to beat whatever my opponent has left. Chicken and Fineas Rage keep him from going into the first position while Radiated Scorcher and Chaos Agent protect from any sneaks like Tenyii Striker, which my opponent went for.

My opponent goes for a similar team but you can see how as the smoke clears my Forgotten one has full health and armor as they stand off against each other and that's why we pull out the Win.

Once again we have Noxious Fumes except this time Fire is banned and only Water and Dragon are open. My strategy here was to Clense Diemonshark with River Nymphs ability with Wave Brood in the back drawing the fire away from Diemonshark. As usual with Noxious Fumes I'm just trying to get my best monster to live as long as possible and win it in the end.

The strategy works out pretty well though my opponent did show me something interesting with the Djinn Chwala that I hadn't thought about. I think if they had used Supply Runner or another damage dealer instead of the Gelatinous Cube my Diemonshark wouldn't have survived. It had 3 health left at the very end and I lose for sure if he goes down but I get why my opponent tried this strategy as the cube does last a very long time.

Welp, that's it for me. I lost the next match 1 game to 2 and couldn't advance but I'll try to do better next time. If you like this kind of content feel free to follow, the goal is to become a great tournament player like @albee (who wins at least 50% of the time!) so I'd love for you to come along for that journey!

I had a look once. Joined and then booted for not being at live check in. Couple minutes late. Not into watching 50 battles before they get to mine. Looks like some good giveaways though.

Yeah it's rough when you miss check in by a minute or two, has happened to me before. I started setting an alarm for every tourny like that on my phone!
