For me—and many others—this is a real loss. Splintercards wasn’t just another fan site; it was a comprehensive tool that helped track countless aspects of the Splinterlands economy and gameplay. From card values and drop rates to collection insights and set progress, it offered the kind of analytics that made serious players better informed and more strategic.
The Missed Feature and Manual Tracking
I had been particularly looking forward to one of the features the developer had teased—a BCX tracker for missing cards in sets. That would have been a huge help, especially now with the launch of Conclave Arcana, where keeping track of progress across all the new cards has been quite a manual effort. Instead, I’ve had to build my own spreadsheets and reference lists to stay organized. It works, but it’s not the same.
More Than a Tool—A Community Pillar
Beyond the data, Splintercards was widely respected throughout both the Splinterlands and Hive gaming ecosystems. It was the go-to reference for analysis, market insights, and meta discussions. Many community members built their own dashboards, guild tools, and strategies around the information it provided.
Its absence is a reminder of how vital third-party projects are to the health of any Web3 ecosystem. They add creativity, transparency, and engagement in ways that official teams often can’t replicate alone.
A Call for Support from the DAO
This loss raises an important question: how can the Splinterlands DAO help prevent this from happening again? With the DAO holding significant SPS reserves and Hive Power, there’s a real opportunity to support community developers who build valuable tools like Splintercards. Grants, partnerships, or even simple delegation of Hive Power could go a long way toward keeping these projects alive and incentivizing innovation.
While we still have a good number of third-party developers active in the ecosystem, their pace has noticeably slowed in recent months. Without continued encouragement and support, it’s hard for these contributors to sustain their work—especially in a niche market that requires constant data updates and evolving APIs.
I hope the community recognizes just how important these tools are to the Splinterlands experience. The loss of Splintercards isn’t just about losing convenience—it’s about losing part of the culture that made Splinterlands special.
Hopefully, this serves as a wake-up call for both players and governance participants to think about how we can strengthen the foundation of our ecosystem, not just through gameplay, but through the tools that help it thrive.
Rest easy, Splintercards—you were one of the good ones.
