The Soulkeep Reset: A Disheartening Turn of Events

The recent announcement of a full reset for Soulkeep players has left me extremely disappointed. This decision adds to a growing list of frustrations that have increasingly pushed me away from the game. At this point, I find myself questioning whether returning to Soulkeep will even be worth it once the updates are implemented. Strangely enough, I’ve felt a sense of relief during my break from the game—a feeling that speaks volumes about my current engagement with it.

The Reset’s Fallout

One of the most disheartening aspects of the reset is how it penalizes dedicated players who have invested both time and resources into climbing the ranks. I’ve built a collection capable of competing in the higher leagues, and the grind to get there has been anything but easy. Yet, because of exploits abused by some players, everyone now suffers the consequences.

This blanket punishment feels deeply unfair to those of us who’ve played by the rules. We’ve endured the daily grind to gather resources and level up our collections legitimately, only to see all that effort wiped away. Adding insult to injury, this reset doesn’t even bring meaningful gameplay improvements or new features that might soften the blow.

A Systemic Issue

The reset highlights a systemic issue that has plagued Soulkeep: the lack of foresight and balance in managing the ecosystem. While SPS rewards have been a reasonable incentive, they don’t offset the frustration of seeing investments and progress erased. The grind, which was already taxing, now feels even more hollow.

The broader Splinterlands community’s reaction to Soulkeep only compounds my disappointment. Many seem to resent Soulkeep’s place in the ecosystem, which I’ve always found to be a shortsighted and selfish stance. While the game’s integration into the ecosystem could benefit both platforms, this reset decision has done little to inspire confidence in Soulkeep’s future.

Looking Ahead—Or Not?

As the drama around Soulkeep unfolds, I find myself grappling with whether it’s worth my time and energy to return. Even with the prospect of a bull market that could reinvigorate the ecosystem, the lack of compelling updates and the alienation of the player base leave me doubtful. If anything, this reset has been a wake-up call—a moment to reevaluate how I prioritize my time within the Splinterlands universe.

For now, I’ll continue to watch from the sidelines, but my enthusiasm for Soulkeep has taken a significant hit. The road ahead for the game is uncertain, and unless the developers can address these fundamental issues, I’m not sure it will regain the trust and excitement of its player base.

The drama, as always, continues…

While I understand the frustration of someone who grinded the game and got their progression erased, imagine the frustration of everyone playing Splinterlands seeing someone earn close to 10k SPS a day by doing 1 try, without having to invest much (and 0 in SPS for a long time). Especially when no one in Splinterlands is earning those values, at least from playing in one account.

I'm not sure what was the exploit in SK but I believe it was something like of taking advantage of a gameplay oversight, am I correct? I don't think players individually should be punished for that. It would have been different if it was something like what happened in Splinterlands where someone was minting DEC with season rentals abuse. The SK team should have taken action much sooner in order to avoid risking losing the SPS rewards.

At this point, this was the only possible solution. There is no way (I assume) of knowing who exploited and who didn't to only move down some people. It is what it is and it's better than just losing the SPS rewards for SK and also better than just allowing free massive SPS extraction.

This is blockchain so there should be a way to see who exploited what but I think the issue is that there were probably no Terms of Service to clarify the definitions. With regards to earning a uneven amount of SPS, that is the economics of supply and demand. The DAO approved a SPS reward pool, if only a handful were playing because they had the assets to play with, they should be rewarded. However, the DAO is in it rights to adjust the reward pool accordingly. None of these options were done; instead, a reset... I have over 1.5m SPS so I know I cannot be considered using an exploit when I probably got less than 2k SPS from playing all these months as I was rarely on the top of the leaderboards (probably due to exploits). Mismanaged in the end and a waste of millions of DEC I invested now years ago (2022 I believe).
