Battle Mage Secrets: Healed Out

in Splinterlands10 months ago

This week the Battle Challenge Ruleset is Healed Out. In this Ruleset, all healing abilities including Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage are removed.

To me, the Healed Out Ruleset is not the most exciting or interesting one. Some Rulesets have huge impacts on the gameplay or force you to use weird lineups. However, there are matches where no one decides to use healing anyway. So matches with this Ruleset in many ways end up being pretty typical battles.

The battle I chose to showcase is a 22 mana battle with the "Healed Out" and "Only Common and Rares May be Used" Rulesets. The available splinters were Fire, Water, Life, Death and Dragon.

Here is a link to the battle:

For this match, I chose the Life splinter and the Tyrus Paladium summoner which will provide one additional Armor for all my monsters. In small or fairly small mana matches it is always nice to have monsters with a little bit of Armor since at least some of them will be low health monsters.

In this Ruleset, when picking out a tank, it is important to remember to choose one that can last a while without being healed. Most of the great Magic attack monsters are either Epic or Legendary. So, I decided to go with a tank with the Shield ability namely, the Beta monster Silvershield Paladin. I always have plenty of Beta monsters on hand as I am one of my Guild’s Beta specialists for Brawls.

I decided to focus my attacks on my opponent’s backline. To this end I chose two Sneak and one Opportunity monster at the front of my backline. I placed a couple tiny mana monsters at the end of my backline to guard against a potential Sneak attack by my opponent.

Start of Battle / Round 1

My opponent has gone with a hard to hit tank with a speed of 5. Their main attack strategy is a strong ranged attack on my tank. Luckily for me, my tank has the Shield ability which means it will take a while for them to get through it, even without any healing.

Round 2

In the first round, I managed to eliminate two of my opponent’s backline monsters with a combination of my Sneak and Opportunity monsters. My tank is still holding strong and in good shape.

Round 3

After two rounds, the match is pretty much over. My tank still looks pretty good and my opponent is down to only two monsters and only one of them is an attack monster.

During the fourth round I was able to declare victory.

This was a short match which I expected from the beginning. It was fairly small mana and of course there was no healing available. No healing matches on average go less rounds than the typical match. In small or sometimes even fairly small mana matches my strategy is usually to go after my opponent’s backline. In this case, my strategy worked well as most of my opponents backline monsters had pretty low health with low chances of misses with their slow speed.

In the Healed Out Ruleset, there are still some ways to extend the life of your monsters because the Rebirth, Resurrect, and Repair abilities are still allowed. The Repair ability restores some Armor, and the Rebirth and Resurrect abilities bring monsters back to life with one health. So overall bringing a strong magic attack is a good strategy for a Healed Out Ruleset. This particular battle also allowed only Common and Rare monsters and was fairly small mana. So in this case, I chose a backfield attack rather than a strong magic attack.

Keep Battling
