Ups and downs in tournaments - Splinterlands Social Media Challenge

in Splinterlandslast month

Hello, everyone! I played in a few tournaments in this season and I didn't do too well in my last two, however there were still many interesting moments and I'd like to share them. Let me know what you think!

Tidalring Moder Novice Invitational

The first moment I want to share was a simple win for me in a pretty restrictive game with a 21 mana limit, just a couple of available splinters and the restriction to magic on top of it all!

We both went for Tofu but my opponent oddly chose to use mainly just one big unit and was greedy enough to give it the scavenger effect instead of the divine shield. On the other hand I chose a few smaller units and took full advantage of the triple shield from Tofu. You can watch the battle here but it was a simple win for me.

This was an even simpler battle! Surely I don't need to tell you how Lorkus is much stronger than these foundation set summoners 😉 Sadly if you join a tournament you need to bring sufficient fire power in order to do well!

This other battle was one of my few significant losses, instead.

With both Tofu and Lorkus available for play it ended up being a bit of a game of chicken between me and my opponent. Ultimately I figured that Tofu would be a fine choice, in case my opponent leaned a bit on the melee strategy. I figured it would be perhaps tempting to rely on melee because of the melee mahyem rule but in the end he just opted for Lorkus and soome strong magic attackers, which did some good work against my lineup.

In such a case it might have just been better for me to also choose Lorkus and put as many meat shields as possible in the front. What do you think??

Anyway, this concludes my summary of the first round of this tournament as most other battles were pretty straightforward and not too peculiar.

My result was 8-3 and things were looking promising for me in the second round.. so what happened, then?? Well, I squandered it all away, of course 😅🤣

Very simply, I just forgot to submit my teams in time. Very embarassing, I know.
But it's not my first time and I know for a fact other people are guilty of this too.
In this specific instance I planned to submit my teams at the last minute so that I could watch the matches resolve, which is often very fun and satisfying. However I just realized when it was already too late that I had to submit the teams.. too bad!

I ended the tournament with a score of 8-14 which still netted me over 40 SPS. Perhaps I could have improved on this result in this second round but it's not too bad.

I will try not to make the same mistake again 😉

Tidalring Modern Adept Invitational

This was another modern tournament but this time around there were Bronze level limitations in place. Here's how it went!

For me, one of the more interesting battles was this one since it featured a ruleset I'd never seen before.

My opponent went for this very cheeky and dangeros strategy with the magic attackers, focusing his damage both at the front and back of my formation!

I could have done a few different things here, including relying heavily on the magic myself thanks to Lorkus but in the end I selected some strong melee units to take advantage of the trample granted by the summoner and further enhances by the ruleset!

All this made for a very chaotic battle with quick and heavy casualties but I was just in time to get a very scenic finish! I figured Mantaroth would be able to put in some work, especially with a meat shield in front of him and it is what happened.. before everything coudl burn away I was able to get off a total of four trample attacks with this strong tank!

Watching the battle unfold was incredibly satisfying 😁

This battle here was a much simpler one but didn't go in my favor.

Venka ended up landing only one out of the five hits directed at Pallus 😅
It really felt like an injustice here. I can't remember exactly what the dodge change attached to the flying perk is but perhaps I'd rather not know! All kidding aside, Pallus is a unit I've snobbed since now but I see it pop up every now and then and do well in the second position!

In this other battle here I was able to use my recently acquired Prophet Rosa summoner to great effect!

Water is a very tricky splinter these days with all strategies being usually viable. Wether you want to focus on melee, ranged or magic there is a combination of units and summoners that lets you do that quite well.

In this case the unassuming nimbledook ranger can become deadly thanks to the boost damage and the double strike! My opponent didn't pick the best team possible so this is not an ideal showcase but I will try to use this strategy more, every now and then.

The rest of the tournament was a mixed bag for me and I actually scored 6-5.. sadly not good enough to qualify for the second round. I finished in the 64th place and earned another bag of about 40 liquid SPS.

In the end these were two disappointing tournaments, for very different reasons!

The earnings must have at least made up for my seasonal rental of Tofu but not much more than that!

Hopefully the next ones will be better.
