Water Counter for Bronze Llama Kron Maybe?

in Splinterlands4 years ago

I have been playing almost three days now and I am pretty hooked! My first day post mentioned that it didn't seem like a very deep game. But it really is a lot more complicated than I initially thought. There is so much to learn I've probably read more the last 2 days than I played. I also entered the art contest. That was fun!

I am still in Bronze III. About half through it. I have 20 games and 14 wins now. Feel like I'm doing okay. I transferred a bunch of my other crypto to the game now and planning to start buying more cards and such.

One thing I have seen mentioned A LOT so far is a combo with Sacred Llama Mage and Krom the Undying. I have not run into this yet. But when I look at the top battles it definitely seems extremely common and the cost of the two cards is quite insane. Around $430 for the Llama and $250 for the Krom. For now anyway, card prices seem to be going crazy right now.

For those that don't know, the combo is essentially Llama gives Krom Last Stand, so with 5 magic attack Krom just one shots most things in bronze-silver, one at a time. And with 18 health and heal every turn, not many bronze-silver teams can get through that health. So Krom is a one card wrecking crew. Kind of cheesy.

I'll admit that it is tempting to rent the two cards and just jump through Silver in a day or two. But my favorite thing in card games is always to build decks. Or figure out counters.

So here is what I was thinking. I'd love for any experienced players to let me know if this would work. My goal was to keep it relatively cheap and similar mana cost. So you can probably get this for $35-45 right now (buying, way cheaper renting.)

Bortus summoner. Torhilo the Frozen tank. So Bortus reduced Krom's damage and void on Torhilo halves Krom's damage on attacks. So if my math is right and it works the way I think this makes it so Krom only does 2 damage a turn. Which can then be healed by Crustacean King. So Llama + Krom = 17 mana. Bortus + Torhilo + Crab = 15 mana. Torhilo also does a good amount of damage, 4, and if you have a level 3 Crustacean King, he has 1 damage. And with the extra 2 mana you can get at least one more damage. So 6 damage to Krom. If the battle is capped at exactly 17 mana it may have to end in a draw. But even at 18, the damage can go up to 7 which would be enough to win... eventually.

Of course it is not likely to be this simple. But this seems like a pretty good way to counter it 1 for 1 in terms of mana costs and stats.

And if they're using Flesh Golem instead of Krom, the same idea could probably work. A summoner with -1 melee and a tank with shield plus a tank healer. May even be able to set that up even cheaper than the anti-magic group. Giving you more room for damage.

I have not really played anything but standard mode games so far. So I'm sure there are plenty of game rules that could cause problems. Maybe I should just play more instead of trying to think of counters to teams I haven't even faced yet? 😅

Sort:

I've been considering messing around with the magic reflect death summoner for that, I use the Kron/Llama combo whenever I can--it's like they were made to battle together!

They really do seem extremely powerful. Seems almost like easy-mode though. Still, if it works it works!
