In this post I'll be talking about something that powers the entire Splinterlands World, it's economy. Specifically, I'll be talking about SPS (Splintershards) and DEC (Dark Energy Crystals), two tokens that make the game's economy rewarding. Lot's of players start playing Splinterlands for the epic battles and for the playing the game itself, but the really thing that keeps the game alive is how SPS (Splintershards) and DEC (Dark Energy Crystals) tokens connect the game with real value.
What is DEC (Dark Energy Crystals)?
Let's start with DEC also known as Dark Energy Crystals.
DEC is the original currency of the game since the early days of the game. DEC is used for Buying and Renting cards in the market, Guild contributions, Combining and leveling up cards and Trading on Hive Engine and other platforms. Basically, it is the main in-game currency of Splinterlands. You can earn DEC through winning ranked battles, participating in events and tournaments and selling or renting cards in the marketplace.
From the early days of the game, DEC slowly became more than just a reward token. It turned into a currency that connects the game with real life trading.
What is SPS (Splintershards)?
Now let's talk about SPS which is also known as Splintershards.
SPS is the staking coin of Splinterlands. Earning SPS is almost the same as earning DEC. You can earn SPS by winning ranked matches, Participating in tournaments and Staking SPS for daily rewards. While, DEC is about trading and buying and selling stuff in game, SPS is about investment. Players who stake SPS can vote on proposals and earn extra rewards through staking mechanisms.
How SPS and DEC work together
You can use SPS to buy card packs, stake for rewards, or even swap it for DEC when you need to make quick purchases. When DEC prices drop, more players convert SPS tokens into DEC to take advantage of cheap markets. When DEC prices rise, many players sell or rent cards to earn more value. This is how these tokens work together and it makes the game even more enjoyable. These tokens also play a big part in motivating the players. When we win a ranked battle, we receive SPS and DEC tokens. The rewarding system is a big factor in motivating players. Players want to play the game even more to get even more rewards. Also, when they open packs and get good cards, that's also a big motivational factor because now they can use those cards in their battles and win rewards. Players can also sell those cards and also rent them out for some passive income.
From my personal experience, Splinterlands is not like the other games in which you just earn coins which doesn't really mean anything outside the game. The more I play the more I learn how the system works.
Conclusion
In conclusion, both SPS and DEC tokens are really important for the game's success. As a beginner player, I might still be learning the mechanics of the game but I know one thing for sure, it's that Splinterlands is not just about cards and battles. It's a whole world in which Strategy and Economy all comes together. That's what makes this game special.
