Yes, Ivarbjorn, it's very different from when I joined as well. I completely understand the desire for SP to want people to invest in the game... obviously we ALL do, but the new players will not invest if they don't have that good experience, as you mention! I hope your friends to invest and see what Splinterlands is totally the way to go... and I am positive they will adjust the new player experience to get more user involvement. :) Have a wonderful day!
