Introduction
Hi! It's me @saydie, playing Splinterlands everyday!
It was already been around 2 years since I started as a Splinterlands player so I can say that I am quite knowledgeable about the game. In fact, last season, my @agonyaccepted account was able to reach leaderboard but just like every newbies out there, I do not know anything about the game. So if you are just new about the game, I could give you some tips that might help you to rise from Zero to Hero.
Getting Started
- Acquiring Summoner's Spellbook
Splinterlands is a Web3 trading card game which can be played for free but in order to access its Play2earn features one must first bought a Spellbook which would cost 10$ worth of fiat or crypto and this will come with 3000 credits which is equivalent to 3$ which you can use to either buy some cards or go to the market to rent.

- Acquiring Summoners and Splinters
Beginners might make it difficult to navigate on the in-game market but don't worry, there are 3rd party website that offers the market features on a more optimized way and if I have to choose, Peakmonsters was the best among them. It can show you your card collection and has multiple filters that allows you to rent or buy cards easily. It also allows card bidding so you can get the cards with the cheapest possible price.
But if you do not want to rent the cards indiviaully, Peakmonster also has Deck Builder that allows you to build your deck either for an individual lineup or thematic then you can rent all the cards that you think you need with only just one click.

But if you really do not have an idea of the cards that you need, you can also use pre-built decks from other card owners with zero rental cost and instead, you get a split of the rewards you earn. Just go to NFTY Arcade that has varieties of pre-built decks from different leagues that you can borrow for free.
- Acquiring SPS Delegation
Another thing that was essential for you to earn through battles was that you have SPS staked based on your league but as a newbie, you probably do not have that yet. Thankfully, Splinterlands has SPS rental market where you can bid for SPS delegation and for a better UI, you can also go to https://peakmonsters.com/rentals/tokens to bid.

If you have no Idea how much SPS you need for the league that you are playing, you can use this Ranked Rewards Calculator by Splintercards.

With this, you have everything that you need to play the game and start your play2earn journey so all you need to do now is to press the battle button and win your battle until you reached Bronze 3 where you start earning SPS from battles.
Strategy Tips for Beginners
Now that you have your spellbook and have aquired the cards and SPS either by buying or renting, you are now more than ready to go with rank battles and here are my tips that could help you to win.
- Understanding Battle Formats and Leagues
In Splinterlands, there are two formats where players can compete. There is Wild where all set of cards can be used in battle and at the same time, it is the place where Bots play, resulting in lower SPS earnings but if your goal is to collect chest with little effort, this could be the place for you. On the other hand, we have Modern where most human players compete but you were limited by using Untamed and Chaos Legion card set which makes the competition harder but you will earn much more SPS if you win. Each format was divided into 6 leagues which are Novice, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Champion. Except from Novice, each league was divided on 3 tiers and your rating is what determines what you you play and will be matched on players with the same league and rating. playing on Higher league gives you the chance to earn more rewards but at the same time, the levels of the cards and the amount of SPS staked in your account also increase.

- Understanding Mana Cap, Rule Sets and Element Limitations
When the matchmaking finally finds you an opponent, It also gives you the rulesets and mana cap for that match which are the conditions set for that battle and could vary from battle to battle where there will be up to 99 mana cap and 3 different rulesets. When battling it is optimal to utilize all the mana cap as much as possible and have an understanding of the rulesets and base the cards that you play according to it. Matchmaking also tells you of the available elements that you can use in battles. There are a total of 6 elements and each one has distinct set of summoners and cards that you can use. Aside from this, there was the neutral element which can be used together with any element.

- Understanding Card basics and Lineup Positioning
In Splinterlands, we have 2 types of cards based on their use which are the Summonner and Splinters. Summoners allows you to use the splinters for each element and most of the time have stats and abilities that will buff your team or debuff the opponent team. On the other hand, Splinters are the monster that you use to battle the opponent and they have the following features.

1. Mana Cost- Was the amount of mana that each card will consume as you put them in your lineup.
2. Card Stats- Comes with 4 traits which are the attack type, speed, armor and health of the Splinter. Attack types can either me no- attack, melee, range and magic.
3. Element/Rarity- Tell you the element of the cards and its ratity which can either be Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary.
4. Name- Tells you the name of the Splinter to distinguish them against other cards.
5. Level- Indicates the level of the card. The higher the level of the card means an increase on its stats and it can unlock other abilities.
6. Experience- Tells how many BCX it needs in order for the card to reach the next level.
7. Abilities- Splinters also posses different types of abilities which can increase as they grow in level which can give them an advantage against other opponents such as an increased on health and the ability to heal.
Aside from these features, each card also have different card frames which tells what edition they do belong and can be either a regular foil or gold foil.

Complete list of abilities from Splintercards
You cannot just slap Splinters as they are. You need to consider their attack types, mana and abilities and make a lineup according to them. There were some exceptions but most Melee monsters can only attack at the first position. On the other hand, Range can attack anywhere but most of them will lose its function when placed at the first position so they usually goes on the last position. Magic was the most versatile of the attack types as it can attack regardless of the position so usually it goes to the middle position. Some factors though can affect the positioning of the cards such as the active rulesets and the individual abilities of the cards. On the match below, you can see that I have placed 4 melee monsters on my first 4 slots but they were still able to attack in front because Melee Mayhem is one of the active ruleset.

- Understanding Active Focus and Chest Rewards
Aside from earning SPS rewards, players can also earn either more SPS, Merits, Potions, Cards and Packs (None for now since allocation was exhausted) through Daily Chest which can be opened within 24 hours period and Season Chest that can be opened usually at the span of 15 days. In order to collect them, you need to obtain Focus Points through winning ranked battles and was determined by the highest league achieved from the previous season.

Regardless of your lineup, you can earn focus points as long as you win your battles but in order to have the most of it, consider building your team with your Active Focus. The active focus can be based on a single element or a group of abilities and the more cards that you place that belongs to your active focus, the more focus points you can collect and this also increases the amount of SPS you can earn.

And with this, I believed I have told the things that a beginner will need to win the game in order for them to master the playing fields of Splinterlands. If I could add something else, it is to join a guild to do brawls and enter tournament events to maximize your earnings. Splinterlands is a complex game which changes over time so there was no absolute strategy to play. Experiment with different splinters and combos, learn from your experiences, and have fun exploring the world of Splinterlands.
Thank you and see you on my next post.
