Minimize the Collateral Damage

Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Each battle in Splinterlands becomes a different type of experience due to the active rulesets that shape each battle, and more often that adjusting to each ruleset becomes the trickiest part of the battle, as if they were more of a threat than the actual opponent. Sometimes this ruleset gives us some stat boosts and abilities, and other times it gives some nasty limitations on the cards that we can use, if not gives us debilitations.

For this week's Community Engagement Challenge, I would like to share one of my strategies on how I minimize the damage my cards received under the Collateral Damage, which is one of the newest added rulesets in the game.

Collateral Damage

Before Collateral Damage, there were only 57 rulesets available in the game, where, depending on what league the player competes, they can have up to 3 active rulesets in battle, but after the most recent maintenance was completed, one of the gameplay updates was the addition of Collateral Damage, making the total number of rulesets increased to 38, and also one of those nasty type of rulesets.

Colateral Damage.png

Collateral Damage is a ruleset that gives the Reckless debilitation on all units. With this debilitation, each successful attack deals 1 damage to the adjacent allied units.

What makes this ruleset really nasty is that not only do your cards get damage every time they attack, but there is also nothing you can do to prevent the damage from happening, unlike Earthquake, where you only need to use Flying units of Noxious Fumes, for which Immunity works the best. You also can't remove the debilitation using Cleanse, so the best thing you can do is to mitigate the damage your cards get from this ruleset.

Minimize The Collateral Damage

To minimize, the damage that your cards get from the Collateral Damage, it is important to have cards that has healing abilities such as, *Heal, *Tank Heal, Triage and Corrupted Healing, as well as cards that will that has abilities that allows them to gain additional health, such as Life Leech and Scavenger. With this, even though your cards still, suffer from the effects of the ruleset, you can at least sustain the health of your cards, and since your opponent is in the same condition, their cards will likely hit the bucket first, unless they use the same cards.

Some cards with Healing abilities.
  • Heal- Restores 1/3 of the max health, rounded down.
  • Tank Heal- Restores 1/3 of max health (rounded down) to the allied unit in the first position.
  • Triage- Restores 1/3 of max health (rounded down) to the allied backline unit that has taken the most damage.
  • Corrupted Healing- Restore 70% of max health to allied units, rounded down. Each time a unit is healed, its max health is reduced by 1.
Some cards with Life increment abilities.
  • Life Leech- Increases health and max health by 50% of damage dealt (rounded up).

  • Scavenger- +1 health and max health each time any unit is defeated.

Battle Showcase

In this battle, I got two annoying rulesets active which are Noxious Fumes and Collateral Damage, both of which inflicts damage on all cards, making it more important to bring units with Healing and life increment abilities. That is why, in this battle, I bring Rage for it's Life Leech ability, as well as Dragon Egg Forager and Arachne Weaver for their Scavenger ability. Also, Arachne Weaver has the Corrupted Healing ability, provide healing support on all my cards. Adding Grimbardum Smith in the mix is just a bonus to give myself some Immunity against Poison.

In round 2, we can see more how important Corrupted Healing is as they can heal all the cards on almost full health despite the damage that they received both from the opponent and the effects of the ruleset.

Eventually, most of the cards were beaten, mostly because of the rulesets, but we can see how two of my cards still remain as there were able to sustain the damage they got long enough before the battle ends.

Closing

And that was how we can minimize the effects of Collateral Damage. It was a difficult ruleset to deal with, the more we find ways how to crack the code and use them within our advantage to help us achieved victory in the battle. And while it was one of those nasty rulesets, there are ways to deal with it (my strategy is just one of those), and as long as you know it and use the right cards at the right moment, you have the upper hand in the battle.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!

This is the same ruleset I am planning to post about this week (if I can make time). Good idea using Life Leech and Scavenger for this rule set. Another one I found is using cards with martyr so your other units benefit from them dying quickly.

Yeah, Martyr also works well with this ruleset. Unfortunately, modern does not have any cards with it. Hope they introduce some with the next set of rewards. I usually begin writing the draft of my post bit by bit, 2-3 days in advance, whenever I am free, then do some proofreading before I post it.

True about modern, it mostly works only in brawls and wild.

Good idea writing a draft and editing it over time. On some types of posts, I do that. For the time-sensitive ones (contests), I find that I don't come back in time and it's been more effective to sit and write in one sitting. It works great for long form content though, I appreciate the suggestion!
