Introduction
Yesterday my Hive Power quietly crossed the 20,000 HP mark, on October 1, 2024 I had 2,877 HP and today it stands at 20,244.374 HP it is a seven times in about a year. Obviously starting from less than three thousand Hive Power it is easy to do a seven times, starting with 20,244 HP I would be lucky to double my Hive Power in the next year.
Comparing Splinterlands Earnings and Hive Earnings
I have started out as purely a Splinterlands player and if you take a look at my Hive Power chart you will see that I did almost nothing on Hive from September 2021 to March of 2023, then I started posting here and there about Splinterlands and I got more serious about it in September / October of 2024.
Today I would like to compare what my card collection and staked SPS earn in Splinterlands and what I earn on Hive. To compare the earnings I would like to establish the value of assets used to earn in Splinterlands and the value of assets I have on Hive.
Splinterlands Assets
Card collection is one of the main tools I use to earn SPS in the game, there is also staked SPS that determines the multiplier for the SPS and Glint earnings. First here is the current value of my card collection from Peak Monsters that is used to earn SPS:
So let's round this up to $2,000 for the simplicity.
I also have 580,524 staked SPS that is worth around $4,157 at current prices, lets round it down to $4,000 so my total assets used to play and earn in Splinterlands are around $6,000 in total
As you can see my staked SPS earns around 11% and that includes voucher value that staked SPS is earning.
Hive Assets (HP)
The only assets that are used on Hive are my staked Hive. Staked Hive allows me to earn curation rewards for liking posts and staked Hive Power is growing at 3.285%
So as we can see my investment in Hive is basically half of my investment into Splinterlands. Now let's compare what I am earning on Hive vs my earnings in Splinterlands.
Splinterlands Earnings
On October twenty first Splinterlands is re-introducing tradable reward cards, so that might change the numbers somewhat, but as of right now the only ways to really earn in Splinterlands are:
- SPS Staking Rewards
- Ranked SPS Rewards
- Brawl Rewards
- SPS Validator Rewards
- Tournament Rewards - I don't participate in these
- Selling Foundation cards - I don't sell those
- Land Resource Production - I am not cashing anything out of land, my land position is too small.
So for me there are basically four sources of earnings in Splinterlands and here is the table below that details those rewards for my last season:
If you add up all the SPS in the table above you will get 7,516 SPS. We have two seasons per month in Splinterlands so we would have to double this number to 15,032 SPS per month.
At the current price of SPS of $0.0071 this is approximately $106.73 per month. That doesn't sound too bad, and the current price of SPS is less than a cent, so what would happen if SPS went up to just seven cents? Well that would make my monthly earnings worth over a thousand dollars and would make my staked SPS worth over forty thousand dollars. Do you think a 7 cent SPS is possible during an altcoin season? I think it is, and I think we could easily see SPS over ten cents.
Hive Earnings
Now that we looked at the SPS earnings, let's take a look at my monthly Hive earnings. Hive earnings come in the following categories for me:
- Author Rewards
- Curation Rewards
- Witness Rewards
Author rewards are indirectly affected by my staked Hive (Hive Power). I believe people take you more seriously on Hive when you have at least ten thousand HP. Curation rewards are directly affected by Hive Power, the more Hive Power you have the more you earn in curation rewards. These rewards generally range from eight percent to about twelve percent which in combination with the 3+% you earn on staked Hive give you around 15% earnings. Witness rewards are basically not affected by your staked Hive unless you have a million Hive staked then it would be somewhat helpful in raising your Witness ranking and earning more Witness rewards.
Here are my monthly Hive Earnings:
These add up to $292.97 per month all of which I re-invest into my Hive Power. As you can see I earn almost three times as much on Hive than I earn in Splinterlands. My main source of earnings on Hive is by far Author Rewards at $226 per month which is about double of my total Splinterlands earnings.
Conclusion
Obviously being involved in Hive ecosystem is almost three times more profitable for me than playing Splinterlands, but unless you actually enjoy writing being an author on Hive blogging will not work for you long term. However, if you do enjoy writing and playing Splinterlands these two activities are complimentary to each other and in my case they help me invest around $400 each month with $100 going towards SPS tokens and $300 going towards Hive Power.
I don't know any other crypto that let's you do this, especially earning $200+ per month for just writing your blog as is the case with Hive. This is an interesting way of building up your crypto holdings over time with little to no investment required.

Well done buddy
Thanks!
You could start staking hbd, there's a juicy 15% apr and it doesn't suffer dumps
I could, but it also has a limited upside...

Awesome. Many congratulations
It's always nice to go to the analytics tab and see your own Hive assets grow.
And with the recent drop in the price of Hive and other assets it's not a bad time to power up a bit either.
The only annoying thing is to try and stay on top of your votes every day, I find that it's not always so easy.
Congrats on the milestone!
congrats on hitting your 20k, what motivates you to go harder on that?
Congrats on hitting your goal. That's pretty awesome.
