Ruleset Revelations - Mastering Going the Distance Ruleset

in Splinterlands21 days ago

When it comes to the ruleset that gives me most trouble then Going the Distance ruleset is one that comes to mind. The challenge for this ruleset is that I have too many choices of splinters and cards that I can play.

The first thing that I have to decide on is which splinter I should chose and here it comes down to summoners and cards in in that splinter. Here are my favorite summoners for the Going the Distance Ruleset:

Best Summoners

Since only ranged attackers can be used in the Going the Distance ruleset the obvious choice in Life splinter is the epic summoner ilthain. This four mana summoner provides two great abilities to the team it boosts the speed of all friendly monsters by one and equips all of the friendly monsters with the backfire ability. This way enemies literally kill themselves off.

If you don't have ilthain then the second choice in Life splinter is obviously General Sloan. This summoner is more offensive oriented and boosts the ranged attackers kill power with plus one to all friendly ranged monsters. While not as effective as my first choice for the Life splinter which was Ilthain this Rare rarity summoner is still a very solid choice to play if you don't have Ilthain handy.

When it comes to the Going the Distance ruleset my second choice summoner wise is the legendary summoner from the Chaos Legion Core set Quix the Devious.

While the abilities that this summoner provides to the friendly team are not as great as Ilthain, it is the access to the cards that the dragon summoner provides is what counts here. I like playing this summoner with Death or Fire splinters. And the cards that you can play with this summoner make it a top choice for me in many battles.

And last but not least among my summoner favorites is Kelya Frendul. While it might not be a traditional choice adding armor and boosting speed is a very nice combination in the battles where ranged attackers only are used.

And I like to play Wave Brood that has taunt and backfire and Angelic Mandarin that has triage healing as well as Mar Toren Trader that has headwinds and a self heal as a combo with the Wave Brood.

Favorite Cards For Going the Distance Ruleset

When it comes to ranged attackers only ruleset the one must have card is Drybone Raider. This neutral legendary card comes with ability to double strike with a melee damage for six points and has an armor shattering ability which is also handy. Since it is a neutral card it can be played with any splinter.

Another favorite card is the Queen of Crows. This rare rarity card is just too good in this ruleset and is one of the reasons I play Quix the Devious summoner in order to gain access to this and other great cards in the Death splinter.

Queen of Crows has huge health of thirteen, can attack from the first position with a three ranged damage, has headwinds ability that nerfs the opposing teams ranged attack by one point as well as has a backfire ability that backfires against all the opponents that land on it. And as a bonus it also slows the whole team of opponents! In my mind this is one of the strongest cards to play in the Going the Distance ruleset.

And last but not least we have Wave Brood. This card is great for the Going the Distance ruleset, because it has huge health of fourteen points, has Taunt and Backfire abilities and is great when used with the other monsters that have triage ability.

The Battle

Link to the Battle

Today I am going to share a battle where the only ruleset in effect was Going the Distance ruleset. All splinters with the exception of water splinter were available and we have eighty mana available so pretty much no restriction on the kind of high mana monsters we can play.

In this case I decided to go with Quix the Devious to gain access to the great monsters in the Death splinter.

As you can see my lineup includes one of my favorite summoners as well as two of my top three cards for the Going the Distance ruleset: Drybone Raider and Queen of Crows. Additionally I am using Syrenth which is another great monster from the Dragon splinter that has taunt and backfire abilities that are crucial for this ruleset. As a bonus Syrenth also comes with a stun and dodge abilities and has one shield and ten health points.

As you can see my opponent nerfed my ranged attackers by three points. That is a bi nerf so my hope is now on backfire monsters. Lets see how this battle will playout...

The first round was definitely tough for our team one of our main damage dealers the Drybone Raider is down to only two health after the first round.

Let's see how the second round goes...

In the second round we lost our main damage dealer, but we also managed to take out their tank.

We are also on the brink of loosing two of our monsters that have only one health remaining!

In the third round we lost two of our monsters as I have predicted and we now have less monsters on the board than our opponent.

Fourth round did look much better their Scale Doctor is a problem and needs to be taken out!

Finally in the fifth round we take out their Scale Doctor and another one of their monsters, now we are in business!

In the round six we took out their front monster which made our victory only a matter of time and by the round eight it was all over bringing our team a win and almost six SPS tokens!

Sort:

the scattershot of your opponent wasnt a wise choice, damage was too spread when he needed to kill the frontline

That scattershot monster is quite deadly at times, it is a good thing I nerfed it to min value.
