Back to battling in Splinterlands -- Frontier League

A day of battles to Gold League

I started in Frontier league yesterday.

I played the tutorial yesterday and enjoyed it. Nice introduction for new players. Then I found out I got some new cards for free. That was nice. Then I looked at the market and saw that the cards were really really cheap. Most common cards at only a penny. Even the summoners were reasonably priced.

Result: I went through all the cards and bought them for maximum price to performance

All totalled I spend less than $20 but that still gave me a huge advantage over the rest of the bronze players. Then silver players. Now gold players. The fact that I've been playing Splinterlands since Untamed probably helps too 😄

Frontier is absolutely a beginner league

The fact that the Frontier league is a beginner league is apparent from the very beginning. There are really very limited deck choices that are viable. There is a reason that Blue and Black splinters dominate. Green has a fair amount of utility but red and white are pretty bad...even when levelled up a bit.

The cards are also very weak as well. Pretty much take a very basic Splinterlands card add 2-3 mana to its casting cost and viola...you have a Frontier card. I regularly play in my guilds wild tournament and I'd be hard pressed to think of a single Frontier card that will get used in guild battles.

But I'm still enjoying Frontier league

#1 in Bronze league...for now

After my first hundred battles I was curious where I would be in bronze league. Surprisingl I was ranked #1.

But that is a one time deal.

Once a player hits Silver league it appears there is no going back.

After a player hits silver he isn't going back to bronze.

Thank you Splinterlands

No, I mean that without sarcasm. I blasted through bronze with little trouble because I know Splinterlands very well. Pitting me against a total newbie is disheartening to new players. There is no reason I should be in the new potential player pool. I'm totally expecting Silver and Gold league to be far more competitive and I'm OK with that. It's competitive but still with a much lower spending cap.

Sure I'll never again reach champion league but if I can keep my spend down? I'm OK with that.

End of season rewards and what to post on next

I'm curious what the end of season rewards are going to be like. I'm pretty sure they will be very weak. 5 chests will likely mean a card of two worth a penny each. No lasting value there. 10 frontier coins to add onto the 12 I already have?

I'm pretty sure my 12 frontier coins plus another 10 from taking top rank (if I stay there) isn't going to add up to much value.

But that's not the point.

I'm having fun playing the game without having to spend a lot of cash. That makes me happy.

In upcoming articles I might write an article or two on the best deck ideas in the frontier league. Might also write an article about getting maximum value with minimum expense but for now?

SPL Trader

I'll also be using the SPL Trader to sell off unwanted cards I win and using the high DEC reward to purchase cards I need. It will be interesting to see if I can make a better collection using the Trader and gameplay. I can say that it will likely be a very very slow grind.

Thanks for reading this far.

And the @dlmmqb When are you going to join the game? Now that the Frontier league is free to play perhaps you want to join in the fun 😜
