Hey everyone! I'm back with another weekly battle. This week, we'll be taking a look at the Wood Nymph from the Earth splinter.
If you're not familiar with the challenege, you can check out all the details HERE.
Let's go check out some lore!
LORE
A peculiar new bud appeared at the tips of the highest branches of the Elder Tree. The animals living in the tree watched as the strange buds grew, and in a matter of days, burst open. From each bud zoomed forth a tiny sprite. These Wood Nymphs quickly scattered around Anumün in a frenzy of mischief.
STATS & ABILITIES
Tank Heal | Restores 1/3 of the Monster in the first position's max health, rounded up, each round | |
---|---|---|
Strengthen | All friendly Monsters have increased health |
Wood Nymph is a great card that comes with the tank heal ability at level 1. While a little light on health, level 3 will get you to a little more comfortable spot with a total of 3 HP. For those of you heading up to max silver, you can expect a little more speed and a total of 4 HP.
Rulesets To Watch Out For
Healed Out | All healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners |
---|
Unless you absolutely need another magic attacker, I'd avoid using Wood Nymph in the Healed Out ruleset. Without the Tank Heal ability, there's other options you might want to consider.
Equal Opportunity | All Monsters have the Opportunity ability |
---|
You'll want to be careful using Wood Nymph in the Equal Opportunity ruleset due to her lower health. If you absolutely have to use her, try placing some lower health monsters in front of her to soak up some damage and keep her going a little longer.
LOST MAGIC | Monsters with Magic attack may not be used in battles |
---|
Not gonna lie... I've caught myself looking for Wood Nymph during this ruleset before realizing what was going on, on more than one occasion.
RULESET
HOLY PROTECTION | All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability | |
---|---|---|
EXPLOSIVE WEAPONRY | All Monsters have the Blast ability |
DIVINE SHIELD | The first time the Monster takes damage it is ignored | |
---|---|---|
BLAST | Does additional damage equivalent to main damage divided by 2 and rounded up, to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster |
NOTE: Divine Shield does NOT protect against poison. Damage is taken, but Divine Shield is not removed.
OPPONENT
I'm not familiar with @indot, but their previous battles are a little odd. Affliction isn't going to help me against Llama-Kron, but I've been able to overpower him with magic before so I'll give it another try.
STRATEGY
I'm expecting a magic assault and with the blast ruleset in mind, I want to use some kind of Magic Reflect in my second position so it will also reflect the blast from attacks on my first position.
I can use Taunt to keep my opponent's attacks focused on my first position, allowing Magic Reflect to handle all the Blast. I'll also try to Amplify those reflections.
I'm thinking about some double, maybe even triple heal action also to help keep everything in the fight as long as possible.
LINEUP
Mycelic Slipspawn goes straight to my first position for this battle. The idea here is that Taunt will draw all the attacks so I won't have to worry about losing one of my healers right away.
Taking up my second spot, with a healthy 10 HP and Magic Reflect, is Prismatic Energy. As Magic attacks hit Mycelic Slipspawn and their resulting blast hits Prismatic Energy, it will be reflected back.
Back again on Amplify duty is the Venari Spellsmith. I put this right behind Prismatic Energy because once that card is eliminated, it won't affect any other cards if I lose Amplify.
Goblin Psychic is healer number one. I wanted to keep him in the middle to protect him from sneak attacks after Mycelic Slipspawn is eliminated. Affliction is such a powerful ability so I'd like to keep it in the fight as long as I can. This whole team could actually fail horribly if my opponent hits me with it right away.
Healer number two is this week's star, the Wood Nymph. Not gonna lie, she's only here instead of Khmer Princess because I saw her first when I was selecting cards.
Khmer Princess, my third healer, winds up all the way in back by no fault of her own.

Reward Breakdown
THOUGHTS
That was a fun battle! Everything worked out as planned, but like I mentioned earlier, that also could've easily went the other way had my Mycelic Slipspawn been hit with Affliction.
I really like Wood Nymph and I'm going to miss her in Modern, but it's for the best that she transitions to Wild; Triple heal is pretty ridiculous, especially when they're all buffed magic attackers as well.
HOW TO GET YOURS
Wood Nymphs can be found for sale or rent in the market. At the time of writing, a BCX 1 card can be purchased for around $4. There are some cheaper deals out there if you're looking for a higher BCX, but they're starting to become more limited.
