Namaste to all warriors of Splinterlands!
In this week's 🌟Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge🌟, I will once again share about one of my battles that taught me something unique and amazing. In this blog, you will find out why I say that in Splinterlands, you can't win a battle solely on strength; you have to be both powerful and clever. It's essential to understand the implications of the rules and carefully build your team, taking all factors into account. As you finesse your strategies with better cards, you'll find Splinterlands is an ocean of rewards and a lot of fun. The deeper you delve, the more you'll benefit from it.🔥

Let's take a look at the battlefield first.

Let me explain everything from the very beginning so you know why I think this is the battle that made me proud of my clever strategy.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the ruleset for this battle was "Back to Basics," where all cards lose all their abilities. Seeing this, I realised that melee cards would only be placed in the first position, as they wouldn't have the ability to perform attacks from anywhere in the back of the lineup.
Also, since the mana cap for this battle was only 28, I decided not to include range attackers in the team because if something happened to the frontline cards, the range attacker would not be able to perform attacks anyway.
The last remaining attack type is Magic. I have some good cards in the Life element, and its Summoner, 'Avina of the Wolf,' also focuses on increasing speed, which is also my primary focus for this battle. Just two days ago, I won an amazing Arcana card from a rarity draw in this element, which I've placed first in this battle. This card, "Saltwraith Bulkhead", is powerful, but its 'Weary Ability' often hampers its attacks. However, according to its description, at the beginning of round 1, Weary units have a 10% chance to become Exhausted. This chance increases by 10% every round, up to a maximum of 80%. Exhausted units skip their turn and cannot retaliate. However, I've had several instances where this card didn't perform in the first two rounds back-to-back and was killed without even doing anything. Normally, this card wouldn't be my first choice for the top spot, but this battle is different because it has an amazing ruleset. Yes, I'd say amazing because, like all other cards, this card will lose its abilities due to this ruleset, and without the Weary ability, it will become a formidable tank. In second and third place, I've placed two of the best possible Magic cards, but the second major part of the strategy comes after reaching the Battlefield.

So, upon reaching the battlefield, in most cases, you also get to see the enemy team just before deciding to use the Archons' powers. I noticed that the opponent had placed ranged attackers on the team. My tank had the highest speed on my team, even on the battlefield, allowing it to attack first. However, its power would be wasted on the armour of the enemy card placed in the first position, and it would take two of my cards to knock it out. So I used my Archan's +2 speed increasing power on both my magic cards, due to which, as you can see in the screenshot above, my magic cards got maximum speed. Now, what happened was that when the battle started, my magic card attacked first, and that attack went directly on the enemy's health, ignoring his armour, and in a single attack, the enemy's first card was knocked out.

After which, my second Magic card's attack knocked out another enemy card in a single attack. Now the enemy has two ranged attackers left, one of whom will now be in the first position and will not be able to perform attacks anyway. How many rounds do you think my opponent will last? You might think that I would have won this battle anyway because my opponent made a big mistake in team selection, but if my opponent had better, more powerful cards, perhaps the battle would have turned around. Well, the definition of better cards can be anything, so yes, the battle could have changed accordingly, but remember, the enemy team lacks not only good cards, but choosing a team without understanding the ruleset was a bigger mistake.
The first card placed on the enemy team cost 4 mana and wasn't an attacker. The enemy likely chose this card for its Thorns ability, but they neglected to consider the ruleset, as all cards in this battle were about to lose their abilities, making this a poor decision. Melee attack cards were not used elsewhere because melee attackers without abilities do not perform attacks. And you all must be aware of the conditions of range attackers, and in this battle, the enemy also suffered huge losses because of that.
This is why I encourage you to focus on rulesets and other battle conditions instead of just collecting good, powerful cards. The Splinterlands is no easy place, and that's what makes it even more fun. A perfect strategy takes into account many factors, including stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and more. Powers working in perfect synergy with each other is what makes a strategy successful.🔥

Well thought through strategy! New players often overlook the importance of speed and indeed the cards with debilitation's are awesome in the back to basics ruleset!
