Namaste to all warriors of Splinterlands!

This week's 🌟Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge🌟 is all about rulesets, where we'll discuss the one ruleset we either have the most difficulty with or have completely mastered. I've chosen Briar Patch. I hope you enjoy this article.🔥

I wouldn't say I've mastered this ruleset, as you need to have the right cards to support your strategy, and I'm still new to deck building. But I can certainly say I've gotten a good grasp of this ruleset. Because with this ruleset, one would normally say that melee attackers should be avoided, but I've slightly modified this basic understanding to account for the limitations of my deck. We know that with this ruleset, all cards gain the Thorns ability, which simply means that melee attackers will receive two damage in return after each attack, provided they have the Deflect ability.

Currently, the most powerful cards in my deck are melee and ranged attackers. I can't prioritise ranged cards because they can't perform attacks from the frontline. In every battle, especially when you have mana freedom, you shouldn't build a team with low attack power cards. So, to maintain my upper hand over the enemy in this ruleset, I've started focusing more on maximising the lethality of my cards' attacks than on returning damage from Thorns. However, this doesn't mean I'm completely free with my melee attackers. I actually prefer to keep one or two melee cards on the frontline, behind them, and place the remaining cards, including both magic and ranged cards. Even here, I try to make melee attacks more lethal and keep the speed of all the cards on the team slightly higher than the basic one. Making melee attacks more lethal with better speed often results in the enemy being knocked out in just one or two attacks. Although Return Thorns also inflict damage on you, comparatively speaking, your pressure on the enemy is intense.

Let's see this in a battle below!

In this battle, the enemy and I have chosen the same Archon. On the one hand, the enemy doesn't use any melee attackers in their lineup except for their tank, which should be an ideal strategy if you have good card options available. However, if you're new like me and just starting to build your deck, you'll have to make the best of what you have. You can also rent some good cards. I own all the cards for this battle. As I mentioned above, due to the lack of the best options, keeping the ruleset in mind, I focused on making my cards more lethal, which you can see increased attack power on my melee attackers.

Additionally, I ensure that the cards have better than average health and better speed than the enemy. Your melee cards' health protects them from being knocked out by return damage, and their higher speed gives them the first chance to eliminate the enemy. Furthermore, the rest of your lineup maintains pressure on the enemy with their heavy attacks. In this rule-of-thumb battle, melee attackers are a forced choice, but your magic attackers play a significant role by staying on the back foot. Therefore, when team-building, it's important to ensure your team has a good mix of magic and ranged attackers.

Although the enemy gave my team a tough fight in this particular battle, choosing an attack type depends on your strategy and the conditions of the battlefield. You must ensure that the attack's impact is high, and this impact plays a crucial role in giving you an edge in the battle. Even when the ruleset is against your attackers, if their damage is lethal, the enemy will suffer the most damage. But let me reiterate, choosing melee attackers should never be the first option in this battle. However, if you use your super cards smartly, you can inflict significant damage on the enemy with melee attacks even in this ruleset that is totally against melee attackers.

In my opinion, every card is important in your deck. It's just a matter of certain battle conditions. You will always have more card options unless a specific ruleset restricts you to use certain cards. In most cases, melee cards are an excellent frontline defence in all battlefield situations. Here is the link to this battle, which I strongly recommend you watch because the more you learn and practice, the better you climb the game ranking.

In Splinterlands, you can't win a battle solely on strength; you have to be both powerful and clever. It's essential to understand the implications of the rules and carefully build your team, taking all factors into account. As you finesse your strategies with better cards, you'll find Splinterlands is an ocean of rewards and a lot of fun. The deeper you delve, the more you'll benefit from it.🔥
