How to Create "Heavy Hitters" in Splinterlands Battles

Mastering the Splinterlands game requires consistency in gameplay and observation through the battle experiences and outcomes. I've had the privilege of playing the Heavy Hitters battle rulesets severally with significant wins and I can tell how a new user can replicate the wins. This battle rulset provides that all units gain the Knock Out ability. Players are advised to include a unit with Stun ability in the lineup to trigger the knock out.

It is important to note that s Unit must be Stunned for Knock Out to trigger. When a Unit with Stun hits a target, there is a 50% chance that the target will skip its next turn. However, I've not had many units with the Stun ability. Just two of my summoners can summon the only two units in my deck with the Stun ability. In case your card deck is as deficient of Stun units as mine, let's learn how to Create your own "Heavy Hitters" without Stun Ability.

Understanding "Heavy Hitters"

In true battle and war settings, Heavy hitters refer to key individuals, units, or weapons that have a significant impact on the outcome of a conflict. These elements typically possess superior strength, skill, or firepower, making them crucial in decisive moments.

There are some examples of Heavy hitters from war history and in modern times. Historical Heavy Hitters are Alexander the Great who conquered much of the known world by his early 30s. His notable Battles are the Battle of Gaugamela and the Battle of Issus. Genghis Khan is another popular Heavy hitter who founded the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history. His notable campaigns include the Conquest of Khwarezmia, and the invasion of Europe. In modern times, we could consider the following as Heavy Hitters:

  • The United States Navy's Aircraft Carriers, which projected immense power globally; were pivotal in World War II and modern conflicts. Their notable engagements are the Battle of Midway and Operation Desert Storm.
  • The Soviet T-34 Tanks which is considered one of the most effective, efficient, and influential tank designs of World War II. Battle of Kursk and Operation Barbarossa are notable engagements.
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or Drones can also be considered Heavy Hitters in modern-day battles. Drones have revolutionized modern warfare with precision strikes and intelligence gathering. With Artificial intelligence in place, it gets more deadly.

Put together, we can say that Heavy hitters in warfare are defined by their outsized impact, strategic value, and often legendary status in military history.

How to Create your own "Heavy Hitters" in Splinterlands Battles

These battles - Kelya Frendul + Nerissa Tridawn and Underboss Fabino + Grund are my best Heavy hitters battles, not because I summoned a Stun monster but that I created a Heavy-hitter strategy for my team.

1. The Kelya Frendul + Nerissa Tridawn Strategy

In this battle with manna cap of 15, Kelya Frendul (4) summoned two monster units - Nerissa Tridawn (9) and Ice Pixie (2) for the battle against the enemy's three units summoned by Tarsa. The emphasis of my strategy was on a great attack with a supportive defense.

With Nerissa Tridawn in the picture, targeting the enemy's health was achieved without a miss. The 3 magic attack stats from the brave monster was a great wreck for the enemy team which fielded only melee monsters. All the enemy's huge armor was a waste since both monster units were magic and aimed directly to deplete their health.

On the other hand, my team was summoned by a balanced summoner - with fair defense and attack enhancement. Giving +1 armor to all friendly monsters is always a boost for the defense when fighting against a set of melee monsters.

I won the battle flawlessly as both of my monsters survived the fight. The battle lasted for just four rounds and it was a great sight to behold.

2. The Underboss Fabino + Grund Strategy

This battle featured the inspired Underboss Fabino (5) summoning Grund (10), Mad Ogre Anarchist (6), and Mycellic Morphoid (2). Underboss Fabino adds +2 melee attack to two friendly monsters - Grund and Mad Ogre Anarchist. With Grund's double attack ability, an additional 2 melee attacks made it potentially positioned to give out 10 melee damage each round.

10 melee attacks from one monster each round is indeed a heavy hit. The enemy monsters could not survive it by the third round. Adding Mad Ogre Anarchist's attacks of 4 melee attack, meant that the enemy team received 14 melee damage each turn. This was possible because Mad Ogre Anarchist had the opportunity ability that allows it to attack from any position, and always aiming for the monster with the least health.

I won the battle although my team lost one monster unit. It was indeed a heavy hit on the enemy monsters that were heavily studded in ability and stats.

The Heavy-hitter strategy

From my experiences in the two battles shared above, I can summarize that creating a heavy-hitter strategy is being able to select a summoner and monster units and arranging them in such a way that helps the monster perform at its best and express an outsized impact at the overall battle storyline. Here are a few picks

  • Look for summoners that amplify your attack. Inspire summoners are awesome.
  • Where applicable, go for magic attack monsters.
  • Be sure your defense (health and armor are great in counts)
  • Always have monsters that can attack from any position.

Have you played a Splinterlands Battle with a "Heavy Hitters" ruleset? What was your winning strategy?

I struggled with consistency due to my inability to master the rules completely. I started well, achieving significant wins like you, but I eventually gave up because it became too difficult.
