A solo fight is a fight carried out by one monster alone. Drawing a battle and deciding to field just one monster is usually prompted by a very low manna cost cap. However, a manna cost cap of 15 was high enough to field more than one monster with smaller manna costs, but I preferred to make it a solo fight. I did so trust the strength and courage of this one monster unit - Grund.
There is an anonymous quote that it takes a lot of courage to stand up for yourself, even when you know you're going to be standing alone. Walking alone is hard and fighting alone is harder, especially, when you have to face a joint force. Thus, the courage to stand alone is often considered the bravest and most powerful thing a person can do. As such, one must not be afraid to take on his/her battles alone. All that is required is to believe in yourself and you find the inner strength to fight and persevere.
Battle Strategy
What really mattered to me in the fight was a solid attack and that is why Grund was my best bet. The battle was summoned by Underboss Fabino. This summoner has the inspire ability which provides that two friendly monsters receive +2 Melee attack or two enemy monsters receive two poison attack.
Grund on the other hand is a melee attack monster that has the Double strike ability that allows it to attack twice each round. According to its lore, Grund is a well-loved monster and he is a staunch defender of his people. His strong ideals of honour and justice infused within him from a young age. When he heard of the Chaos Legion invasion, Grund took up his hammers in anger and sought them out immediately.
The battlefield looked simple until the fierce fight t ensued and lasted for five rounds. It was surprising how Grund was able to stand through those Five rounds head tall. Let's look at the screenshots of the battle.
The "Holy Protection" Effect
On drawing this battle, it came with 15 manna cost cap and the Holy Protection ruleset. Holy Protection ruleset provides that "all monsters have the Divine shield ability". That means that all monster units fielded for the fight had the chance of evading/blocking an attack.
You can see from the above screenshot that Grund was able to miss a melee attack. This was a result of the "Holy Protection" effect. Below is how monsters from both teams activated the Divine shield ability which nullified attacks. To a great extent, missing those attacks gave my Grund an edge in the fight.
At the end of the first round, all monsters on the battlefield were intact. There was no unit loss recorded.
By the end of the second round, Grund was able to ground the lead monster unit in the enemy team. Thanks to the double strike it gives each round.
The battle lasted up to the fifth round when I finally secured victory for my team with a solo monster.
The edge I had in the fight was that the enemy team had just two attacking monsters out of the three it fielded. However, Grund's double attack could be viewed as two attacking monsters especially as it was boosted by the "Inspire" ability of the summoner.
The Winning Strategy
Winning a SPlinterlands battle with a solo fighter requires that the monster unit fielded have a good attack and defense stat. With 10 health counts and 3 melee attack stat, Grund was a good selection.
Put together, the motivation is that I’d walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction. Without a doubt, being comfortable on your own is a superpower and this is what the mighty "Grund" just proved in this Splinterlands battle. never be afraid to stand up for what is right, even when you feel like you are standing alone. Be courageous!
I am suggesting that a solo-monster ruleset be created in the Splinterlands battle. This would add to the league of rulesets like Fab IV and Five Alive rulesets.
