Prelude
Hi all, good day to all of you. It's time again for Community Engagement Challenge. Today's topic is on battlefield breakthrough where we look at a battle that taught me something new so that I can use them in future battle. Ever since the introduction of skills that have negative impact on lineup such as electrified and incendiary of which both will induce damage to own lineup after a round resolves, I have been adopting this high risk high reward kind of gameplay in my ranked battles. And today, I will cross examine if this kind of high risk high reward strategy will work well in Noxious Fumes.

High Risk High Reward
Typically, cards that come with negative buff to own lineup will need to have something worthwhile for one to consider putting in the lineup.

Take for example for on Shock Trooper

This card at 4 mana, already give 4 magic attack at level 1, is definitely something tough to face against and can almost wipe out any card with one blow. And that is why, there is a negative buff on it where it will deal 1 damage to allied units at the beginning of each round.

Painful, for sure it is. But to be able to take out one card with this huge magic attack, it is probably worth the risk. But when we have Noxious Fumes as the ruleset for the match and cards taking 2 damage at the start of round 2 and beyond, is this still worth it?

Let's find out through going through a match.

Selection Analysis
In the matchup, we have 3 splinters available for selection, namely fire, water and death. For me, I know I will some kind of sustainability for the lineup and to keep them afloat for Noxious Fumes, I picked death so that I can use Arachne Weaver to give Corrupted Healing. And it is my opponent whom will be using the high risk lineup against me.

To lead the lineup, I call upon Thalgrimore, death splinter foundation archon which is able to give opponent cards a negative 1 health debuff and potentially make it tougher on their end, putting more pressure on them with Noxious Fumes ruleset looming. In terms of tank, I pick Ulundin Overseer which is pure health and armour stats but no attack. It has flanking so it is really useful for me to put Thraghun in the lineup as Overseer will shield it well while Thraghun smashes it safe from 2nd position and crippling opponent cards that have armour. Next in the lineup is Helheim Demon that has taunt and flying, the card that will be absorbing most of the long range attacks from my opponent. Next is an important to sustain the lineup, Arachne Weaver that give corrupted healing. Though it reduces the max health by 1 after each heal, it is still healing as it heals anyone in the lineup that had health taken out from it. Meriput Slinger is the next card in the lineup that strikes for 3 damage and able to impede opponent upon a successful strike. Last but not the least, New Beluroc Aegis for a 2nd taunt to contain any further damage should Helheim Demon fall.

Opponent apparently used the Mariel Singariel for the additional magic attack buff which will benefit a couple of the cards in his lineup. Leading the lineup will be Commander Slade which is has fantastic health and good attack stats with dodge. Next in the line is Giant Alpine Skink which also has fantastic stats and shield. The next card will be Sea Dog of Eight which is also a card of high health. Next 2 cards are from the foundation series, first is Great Bear Druid which is a dual attack card with magic and melee and the next card will be Saltwater Mage which has sneak magic. Last on my opponent's lineup is Shock Trooper, the high risk card which will get boosted to 5 magic attack due to the archon.

Conservative lineup on my end while opponent decided to go all out and have a bunch of high health cards to see it through and endure the shock from Shock Trooper and Noxious Fumes. Let us move on to the round by round synopsis.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - This is how it looks like at the end of round 1 before any electrified damage or poison applied. So far no casualties before damage applicaton.

Round 2 - When all damage finished its application, only my Helheim Demon fell due to the mad damage it received and couldn't sustain sufficiently even after being healed.

Commander Slade was taken out during the main turn by Meriput Slinger and this is how the lineup looked before any damage being applied.

Round 3 - And after the damage applied, every single card on my opponent end fell with only Sea Dog of Eight surviving. On my end, I had 3 cards surviving with New Beluroc Aegis and Arachne Weaver falling.

The lineup continue to add pressure within the round and managed to take out Sea Dog of Eight with ease and claim the victory from a steady means of sustaining the lineup.

Battle Summary
While having an attractive stat line that can blow off any card with ease or severely injuring them, it does see like running a 3 damage per turn impact through Electrified and Poison is not exactly a very good idea as not many cards can endure more than 6 damage to even last out 2 turns. Healing will do better in such matches to just outlast opponent and let the ruleset self settle my opponent lineup.

Wrap Up
Thank you for coming by my post and walking through with me on assessing if high risk strategy should be deployed in Noxious Fumes ruleset. And to also note, this is likely the same case if we are to do so in the Earthquake or Global Warming rulesets. It is definitely not worth to subject one's lineup to such persistent self damage on these rulesets.
