I started writing a new story, and today, on my way to work, I wrote another chapter.
Here is how the last part has ended:
We came closer—and to our shock, we realised it was a cat. And not just any cat, but our Maurice! But how did he find us? And how did he arrive before we did?!
At first, we were all in shock. We thought maybe we were imagining things. Or maybe it was another cat that just happened to look a lot like Maurice. But as soon as we crouched down in front of him and looked into his eyes, we knew - it was definitely him. Maurice! We looked at each other, and without saying a word, we decided that our family had just gained a new member.
Following an old tradition, we decided to let the cat enter the new house first for good luck. Maurice glanced at us and stepped over the threshold.
We got used to him very quickly, as if he had lived with us his whole life. Sometimes it even seemed like he looked at us like a person would.
Five years passed. Then suddenly, very strange things began happening in our city. People started disappearing. On the news, they reported that some people claimed they had seen monsters, and strange animal tracks were found on the ground. Of course, we didn’t believe any of that nonsense - except maybe the part about avoiding dark streets late at night.
Maurice also began acting strangely. He used to hate sitting too close to us. He didn’t like being touched, and he certainly never showed affection on his own. But now he was doing the complete opposite.
And then he disappeared… He was gone for over a week. We had already filed a police report. We hung missing cat posters all over the district. We contacted every possible lost pet service we could find.
That night, it was pouring rain. Thunder shook the sky. We were all sitting at the table, discussing new plans for finding Maurice. Suddenly, the front door creaked open. At first, it seemed like no one was there - maybe the door had opened because of the strong wind. But then our eyes dropped lower. Maurice was sitting on the doorstep.
