[Finish the Tale contest] Maurice is not an ordinary cat

Today I woke up early because I was on my way to work. And I was writing a new part for my 'Cat' story.

Here is how the last part has ended:

But then our eyes dropped lower. Maurice was sitting on the doorstep.

For a long moment, we couldn’t believe it was really him - our beloved Maurice. We stared at him without blinking. It felt like time had stopped. Maurice crossed the threshold of the house and stepped closer. I was the first to snap out of shock and ran toward him. I wrapped my arms around him as tightly as I could and didn’t want to let go. The rest of the family followed, and soon we were all standing there, embracing him together.

Suddenly, it seemed like someone said something - but it definitely wasn’t any of us. Maurice? Haha. He’s a cat - he can’t speak human language. We looked around.

Then we heard the voice again. And it was coming from Maurice.

“I missed you so much. But we don’t have time for hugs. We need to decide what to do next - urgently. Our city is in danger. The whole world is in danger.”

We could not believe that our Maurice was speaking.

He continued:

I am not an ordinary cat, as you may have guessed by now. Yes, I understand and speak your language. My people and I have been living on Earth for a very long time, protecting humans from attacks by cosmic creatures. For many years, we managed our mission well. But recently, something went wrong, and those creatures made it to Earth. I had to travel through several countries and cities to contact my comrades and figure out the cause - as quickly as possible - and drive those creatures off the planet. I thought we could handle it fast, but it seems the situation is far more serious. Someone on Earth may be helping them. And whoever it is must be extremely strong to break through our defences without being detected. I need your help this time. You humans think differently. Even now, I sometimes don’t understand you. But maybe… that’s exactly our chance to save this world.”

I felt shock and disbelief. It all seemed like a dream. First, Maurice returned wearing a crown on his head. Now he was talking - talking about some creatures that had invaded our world.

We exchanged glances and silently understood that everything he said was true, and we had to listen until the end. But the more he spoke, the more terrified we became - and the more it felt like the end of the world had already begun.

To be continued…
