The letter arrived with no return address and only three words: "Don't trust him."
For minutes, Detective Rowland sat at his desk, staring at the plain white envelope, his mind racing with possibilities. The case he was working on, a string of high-end jewelry store robberies, had just gotten a mysterious twist.
As he pondered the cryptic message, his partner, James, walked in, coffee in hand. "What's got you looking like you've seen a ghost?" he asked, noticing Rowland's furrowed brow.
Rowland handed him the letter. James' eyes widened as he read the words. "Who's 'him'?" he asked, his voice low.
Rowland's eyes narrowed. "That's what I need to figure out." He thought back to their last lead, a suspect with a shady past. Was the letter a warning or a red herring?
As they investigated further, Rowland couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. The letter had unsettled him, and he wondered if they were getting close to the truth.
The phone rang, breaking the silence. Rowland's gut told him this call would change everything. "Detective Rowland," he answered, his voice firm.
The voice on the other end sent chills down his spine. "You shouldn't trust your partner."
Rowland's eyes locked onto James, his mind reeling with questions. Who was behind the mysterious message? And who could he trust?
