El Halo (parte 20)
Tras el ataque a GB01, el Parlamente decidió retirar todo esfuerzo, en el espacio profundo del halo, por establecer la red de puentes que se había planificado. El almirante Oliver Almeida, sería honrado como el mayor héroe de la guerra del halo y como reconocimiento a su labor, se le concedería el comando del recientemente creado componente de GB01, en sustitución del almirante Johan Salvatierra, quien después de resultar herido durante el ataque, fue reasignado a labores administrativas en Apolo.
Pasaron quinientos años sin que se detectara la presencia de los alienígenas, nuevas tecnologías de sensores y naves sustituyeron a las ya obsoletas, que una vez fueron novedosas durante la guerra, el Odiseo, que se convertiría en la nave insignia de la flota de GB01 después del ataque, aunque ya no bajo el comandado de Oliver, sería el primero en ser reemplazado, en su lugar sería colocado el acorazado Radamantis, al que, meses después, acompañarían el Minos y el Éaco, los tres jueces, los más avanzados de todos los componentes del ejército y también los mejor equipados.
Fue hasta entonces que el Parlamento, ahora presidido por el representante Albert Sorensen, decidió ampliar el perímetro de exploración de las patrullas, llegando a incursionar hasta los trescientos años luz en el halo, una insignificancia, comparado con lo que se requería recorrer para instalar la primera capa de la red de puentes.
Todo se mantuvo sin ninguna novedad, y poco a poco se fue ampliando el rango de las patrullas, hasta que, trascurridos ochocientos treinta y dos años del ataque a GB01, repentinamente un llamado de auxilio de la fragata clase Titan, Ítaca, que se encontraba patrullando la región gb122 a poco más de mil doscientos años luz de GB01, entró por el enlace cuántico de emergencia de la estación espacial.
—Almirante, hay un llamado de rescate de la fragata Ítaca, al parecer fueron atacados y el capitán ordenó evacuar la nave y sólo él y otros dos oficiales permanecieron para responder al fuego enemigo —dijo OLIMPIA a Oliver que se encontraba en su habitación.
—¿Qué nave de rescate está mejor equipada para recorrer la distancia en menos tiempo? —preguntó el almirante a la IA.
—La Teseo señor —respondió OLIMPIA sin demora —. Son rescatistas de nueva generación, cuerpos totalmente cibernéticos y la nave cuanta con motores de 500kc, pertenecen a la sexta flota de Apolo, que están custodiando el puente en el territorio inu, pero por los ejercicios se encuentran en nuestro lado en maniobras con nuestra flota.
—Solicita la autorización a la sexta flota para que ellos respondan a la llamada y comunícame con el capitán de la Apolo —pidió Oliver.
—De inmediato señor.
Tres minutos después, la imagen de un oficial de cuerpo cibernético, embutido en un pulcro uniforme azul de rescatista, se proyectó en la habitación de Oliver.
—Capitán Boris Meléndez de la nave de rescate Teseo a sus órdenes señor —dijo marcialmente el oficial, mientras saludaba a Oliver.
—Descanse capitán, supongo que ya está al tanto de la situación, una de nuestras fragatas está en problemas y necesitamos que rescaten a los tripulantes que fueron evacuados —explico Oliver.
—Sí señor.
—Capitán Meléndez, necesito que haga esto con la mayor premura que le sea posible y ante cualquier situación anómala abandone lo antes posible la zona del rescate, ¿entendido?
—Sí señor —respondió Meléndez —. ¿Puedo hacer una pregunta señor?
—Hágala.
—¿La nave en cuestión fue atacada por los alienígenas? Señor.
—No lo sabemos, ya han pasado más de ochocientos años desde la última vez que supimos de ellos —dijo Oliver —. Si es todo, le pido que por favor actúe rápido y con cautela.
—Es todo almirante, con su permiso, me retiro —respondió Meléndez y su imagen se desvaneció de la oficina de Oliver.
La nave Teseo y su tripulación de dos miembros, salieron rumbo a encontrarse con los evacuados de la fragata Ítaca, regresando pocas horas más tarde, transportando un racimo de ocho cápsulas de evacuación, en las que, por fortuna, venía ilesa, la casi totalidad de la tripulación de la fragata.
Minutos más tardes, y como un servicio personal, el capitán Meléndez y su primer oficial Ingmar Blum, se ofrecieron para rescatar del interior de la fragata, los cuerpos del capitán y los dos oficiales que permanecieron para responder a los enemigos. Por lo que partieron nuevamente al encuentro con el sitio del ataque.
Veinte minutos después de su partida, a unos dos mil kilómetros de la región ecuatorial de la GB01 y a una centena de kilómetros de la entrada del puente, justo donde se encontraba la sexta flota de Apolo, después de ochocientos treinta años de su último ataque, una triada de naves alienígenas, emergió de impulso, bombardeando con cañones de plasma a las naves de la flota de Apolo y las de GB01, que se encontraban en la zona.
—Almirante, se solicita su presencia inmediata en el puente —dijo OLIMPIA por el altavoz de la habitación de Oliver —. Estamos bajo ataque.
—Están de regreso —fueron las únicas palabras del Almirante antes de ponerse de pie y salir en dirección al puente.

After the attack on GB01, the Parliament decided to withdraw all efforts, in deep halo space, to establish the bridge network that had been planned. Admiral Oliver Almeida, would be honored as the greatest hero of the halo war and in recognition of his work, he would be given command of the newly created GB01 component, replacing Admiral Johan Salvatierra, who after being wounded during the attack, was reassigned to administrative duties on Apollo.

Everything remained uneventful, and little by little the range of the patrols was extended, until, eight hundred and thirty-two years after the attack on GB01, suddenly a distress call from the Titan-class frigate Ithaca, which was patrolling the gb122 region a little more than twelve hundred light years from GB01, came through the space station's emergency quantum link.
-Admiral, there is a rescue call from the frigate Ithaca, apparently they were attacked and the captain ordered to evacuate the ship and only he and two other officers remained to respond to enemy fire, -said OLIMPIA to Oliver who was in his quarters.
-Which rescue ship is best equipped to cover the distance in the shortest time? -asked the admiral to the AI.
-The Teseo sir - OLIMPIA answered without delay -They are new generation rescuers, totally cybernetic bodies and the ship has 500kc engines, they belong to the sixth fleet of Apollo, they are guarding the bridge in the Inu territory, but because of the exercises they are on our side in maneuvers with our fleet.
-Request the authorization to the sixth fleet for them to respond to the call and communicate me with the captain of the Apollo -Oliver asked.
-Immediately, sir.
Three minutes later, the image of a cybernetic-bodied officer, clad in a neat blue rescue uniform, was projected into Oliver's room.
-Captain Boris Melendez of the rescue ship Theseus at your command sir, -said the officer martially, as he saluted Oliver.
-At ease captain, I suppose you are already aware of the situation, one of our frigates is in trouble and we need you to rescue the crew members that were evacuated, -explained Oliver.
-Yes sir.
-Captain Melendez, I need you to do this as quickly as possible and in case of any anomalous situation leave the rescue area as soon as possible, understood?
-Yes sir,-Melendez answered. -Can I ask a question sir?
-Ask it.
-Was the ship in question attacked by the aliens? Sir.
-We don't know, it's been over eight hundred years since we last heard from them, - said Oliver -If that's all, I ask you to please act quickly and with caution.
-That's all Admiral, with your permission, I'll leave, - replied Melendez and his image vanished from Oliver's office.
The ship Theseus and its crew of two left to meet the evacuees of the frigate Ithaca, returning a few hours later, carrying a cluster of eight evacuation capsules, in which, fortunately, almost the entire crew of the frigate was unharmed.
Minutes later, and as a personal service, Captain Melendez and his first officer Ingmar Blum, offered to rescue the bodies of the captain and the two officers who remained to respond to the enemy from inside the frigate. So they set off again to meet the site of the attack.
Twenty minutes after their departure, about two thousand kilometers from the equatorial region of the GB01 and a hundred kilometers from the entrance of the bridge, just where the sixth fleet of Apollo was located, after eight hundred and thirty years of its last attack, a triad of alien ships, emerged from impulse, bombarding with plasma cannons the ships of the Apollo fleet and those of GB01, which were in the area.
-Admiral, your immediate presence on the bridge is requested, - OLIMPIA said over the loudspeaker in Oliver's quarters -. We are under attack.
-They're on their way back, -were the Admiral's only words before he stood up and left in the direction of the bridge.
