Las fragatas Pólux, Hiperión y Selene recibieron graves daños en el primer ataque de las naves alienígenas, las bajas fueron significativas, sin embargo, las tres, aunque fuera de línea e irreparables, aun tenían al grueso de su tripulación a bordo, así que la orden de Almeida, a las restantes naves fue resguardar a las tres caídas, abriendo fuego con todas las baterías, sobre las naves alienígenas.
Por su parte la Leónidas acompañada por la Aquiles y la Bucéfalo, junto a dos escuadrones de drones inus, harían un salto corto, para situarse a un par de miles de kilómetros en la retaguardia de las naves alienígenas. No era una táctica muy brillante, pero Almeida, esperaba que resultara efectiva, al menos para disuadir a los alíen a retirarse, para poder recuperar a los evacuados y abandonar la zona.
Como se planteó, las tres fragatas salieron de impulso a dos mil kilómetros de las tres naves enemigas e imitando su estrategia, abrieron fuego de inmediato, con todos sus cañones de plasma, sus escudos resistieron el primer impacto pero durante la segunda ronda una de las naves alienígenas resulto dañada, obligándola a hacer un salto inmediato y dejar el lugar, las restantes nave continuaron disparando contra la flota, ahora dividida, logrando destruir algunos drones y dañar moderadamente algunas naves, antes de retirarse dando un salto.
―Capitán Cho queda usted a cargo del rescate de las tripulaciones de las naves dañadas, luego queme los restos de las naves, no quiero que nada de nuestra tecnología pueda ser rescatada por los alienígenas ―dijo Almeida a través del enlace cuántico, dirigiéndose al capitán de la Izanagi ―. Capitán Aguirre trate de rescatar cualquier tipo de resto que haya quedado de la nave enemiga que resultó averiada ―dijo al capitán de la Bucéfalo ―. La Aquiles y la Leónidas iremos tras las naves alienígenas.
Astrometría calculó la ruta de escaque de los atacantes, basados en las alteraciones en el campo de gravitones dejado por sus motores de impulso espacio temporal, y Oliver ordenó hacer saltos de quinientos años luz, en la dirección señalada, hasta dar con señales de ellos.
Tras hacer doce saltos, internándose, más de lo nunca nadie antes lo había hecho, en el halo, detuvieron su avance.
―¿Qué opinas Vincent? ―preguntó Almeida a través del enlace cuántico al capitán de la Aquiles.
―Creo que nuestra audacia nos ha traído muy lejos ―respondió el capitán Vincent Ferrari―. Si nos emboscan aquí, nadie podrá venir en nuestra ayuda. Sólo nos estamos internando en la más absoluta nada.
―Concuerdo contigo, creo que me apresuré en pensar que podríamos darles caza ―dijo Almeida ―. Regresemos al sitio del ataque. Alférez, infórmele al resto de la flota que cesamos la persecución y regresamos ―dijo, al encargado de las comunicaciones.
Después de un salto de treinta y seis horas, estuvieron de regreso en el lugar donde fueron atacados. Ya los sobrevivientes habían sido rescatados y el capitán Cho había ordenado a la mayoría de las naves restantes que regresaran a GB01, quedando sólo tres naves, incluyendo a la Izanagi que se encargaría de colocar cargas de fusión para incinerar los restos de las tres naves inhabilitadas.
―Tiene usted el mando nuevamente, coronel Almeida ―dijo Cho, tras la llegada de la Leónidas y la Aquiles.
―Gracias capitán Cho, pueden proceder con la colocación de las cargas y luego retirarse ―dijo ―. Nosotros los seguiremos. ¿La Bucéfalo logró rescatar algún resto de la nave alienígena?
―Si señor, fueron los primeros en regresar a GB01, llevaron los restos para análisis ― respondió Cho.
―Perfecto, procedan.
Las cargas fueron puestas y tras un trio de descomunales estallidos, los restos de las tres naves, literalmente se evaporaron, sin dejar más que moléculas dispersas tras ellos. Para luego regresar a GB01, seguidos un par de horas después por la Leónidas y la Aquiles.

The Halo (part 6)
The frigates Pollux, Hyperion and Selene received serious damage in the first attack of the alien ships, the casualties were significant, however, the three, although out of line and irreparable, still had the bulk of its crew on board, so the order of Almeida, to the remaining ships was to protect the three fallen, opening fire with all batteries, on the alien ships.
The Leonidas, accompanied by the Achilles and the Bucephalus, together with two squadrons of Inus drones, would make a short jump to position themselves a couple of thousand kilometers to the rear of the alien ships. It was not a very brilliant tactic, but Almeida, hoped it would prove effective, at least to dissuade the aliens from retreating, in order to recover the evacuees and leave the area.
As it was planned, the three frigates left on impulse two thousand kilometers away from the three enemy ships and imitating their strategy, they opened fire immediately, with all their plasma cannons, their shields resisted the first impact but during the second round one of the alien ships was damaged, forcing it to make an immediate jump and leave the place, the remaining ships continued firing against the fleet, now divided, managing to destroy some drones and moderately damage some ships, before retreating by jumping.
-Captain Cho, you are in charge of rescuing the crews of the damaged ships, then burn the wreckage of the ships, I don't want any of our technology to be rescued by the aliens, -said Almeida through the quantum link, addressing the captain of the Izanagi-. Captain Aguirre, try to salvage whatever remains of the enemy ship that was damaged, - he said to the captain of the Bucephalus -. The Achilles and the Leonidas will go after the alien ships.
Astrometrics calculated the attackers' escape route, based on the alterations in the graviton field left by their space-time impulse engines, and Oliver ordered to make five hundred light-year jumps, in the indicated direction, until he found signs of them.
After making twelve jumps, deeper into the halo than anyone had ever done before, they stopped their advance.
-What do you think, Vincent, - asked Almeida through the quantum link to the captain of the Achilles?
-I think our audacity has gotten us too far, - answered Captain Vincent Ferrari-. If we are ambushed here, no one will be able to come to our aid. We are only going into absolute nothingness.
-I agree with you, I think I was too hasty in thinking we could hunt them down, - said Almeida -. Let's get back to the attack site. Ensign, inform the rest of the fleet that we have ceased pursuit and are returning, -he said to the communications officer.
After a thirty-six hour jump, they were back at the place where they were attacked. By now the survivors had been rescued and Captain Cho had ordered most of the remaining ships to return to GB01, leaving only three ships, including the Izanagi which would be tasked with placing fusion charges to incinerate the wreckage of the three disabled ships.
-You have the command again, Colonel Almeida, - said Cho, after the arrival of the Leonidas and the Achilles.
-Thank you, Captain Cho, you may proceed with the placement of the charges and then withdraw, -he said-, -we will follow you. We will follow. Did the Bucephalus manage to rescue any remains of the alien ship?
-Yes sir, they were the first to return to GB01, they took the remains for analysis, - answered Cho.
-Perfect, proceed.
The charges were set and after a trio of huge explosions, the remains of the three ships literally evaporated, leaving only scattered molecules behind them. They then returned to GB01, followed a couple of hours later by the Leonidas and the Achilles.
