Se puede comenzar hablando acerca de la presión que se ejerce en el espacio intrapleural. Esta presión es negativa siendo así menor que la presión atmosférica y ocurre por el retroceso de los pulmones, desde adentro hacia afuera de nuestra pared torácica.
You can start by talking about the pressure exerted on the intrapleural space. This pressure is negative, thus being less than atmospheric pressure and it occurs due to the recoil of the lungs, from the inside out of our chest wall.
Cuando ocurre un neumotórax el aire ingresa al espacio pleural.
When a pneumothorax occurs, air enters the pleural space.
Puede ocurrir desde el exterior del tórax o desde el pulmón en sí a través de los tejidos del mediastino o por perforación en la pleura pulmonar.
It can occur from outside the chest or from the lung itself through the mediastinal tissues or by perforation in the lung pleura.
El neumotórax causa aumento progresivo de la presión dentro de las pleuras, esto genera la presión positiva y ocasionado el colapso del pulmón. Además se desplazaría el mediastino y comenzaría a disminuir el retorno venoso al corazón y por consiguiente a los demás órganos del cuerpo.
Pneumothorax causes a progressive increase in pressure within the pleurae, this generates positive pressure and caused the collapse of the lung. In addition, the mediastinum would move and the venous return to the heart and consequently to the other organs of the body would begin to decrease.
Una vez que el aire ingrese al espacio pleural este no podrá salir al menos que se realice un drenaje torácico, de no ser así comenzará una hipotensión sistémica consecutiva de un paro cardiorrespiratorio con el pasar de los minutos.
Once the air enters the pleural space, it will not be able to leave unless a thoracic drainage is performed, otherwise a systemic hypotension will begin following a cardiorespiratory arrest with the passing of the minutes.
Es importante que el personal médico y de enfermería se encuentre capacitado para saber abordar un neumotórax en casos graves de emergencia para así lograr estabilizar al paciente.
