¡Hola, gente de internet! Todo bien hoy? En esta ocasión quise compartirles mi experiencia asistiendo al concierto de una de las orquestas más famosas de mi país, en el cual aproveché la ocasión de hacerles una pequeña entrevista a los cantantes de la que obtuve los datos para este post.
Hello, internet people! Everything OK today? This time I wanted to share with you my experience attending the concert of one of the most famous orchestras in my country, in which I took the opportunity to do a short interview with the singers from which I obtained the data for this post.
El alcalde recién electo de mi ciudad, en un evento previo había anunciado que el día 30 de diciembre habría un concierto de la Billo’s Caracas Boys en una plaza cercana a mi casa, por lo que había furor en la comunidad y mucho entusiasmo debido a que esa orquesta junto con "Los Melódicos” es una de las orquestas líderes y con muchísimos años de trayectoria.
The newly elected mayor of my city, in a previous event, had announced that on 30 December there would be a concert by Billo's Caracas Boys in a square near my house, so there was a furore in the community and a lot of enthusiasm because this orchestra together with "Los Melódicos" is one of the leading orchestras with many years of experience.
Junto con mi familia (mis papás y mi hermana) nos alistamos para ir. Podría decir que venezolano que se respete, le gusta este par de orquestas (La Billo y Los Melódicos) y además, ya es tradición venezolana oírlas en la época decembrina, sobre todo para limpiar las casas, hacer las comidas navideñas etc. Estaba yo también muy emocionada porque mi papá es fan de La Billo’s Caracas Boys y estaba muy contento.
Together with my family (my parents and my sister) we got ready to go. I could say that all venezuelan likes this pair of orchestras (La Billo and Los Melodicos) and besides, it's already a venezuelan tradition to listen to them during the Christmas season, especially when cleaning houses, making Christmas meals etc. I was also very excited because my dad is a fan of La Billo's Caracas Boys and he was very happy.
Yo estaba preocupada por la memoria del teléfono de mi hermana (tiene muy poca memoria interna y no tiene memoria extraíble aún) pero iba con la mejor disposición de grabar todo lo que pudiera.
I was worried about the memory of my sister's phone (it has very little internal memory and no removable memory yet) but I was keen to film as much as I could.
Cuando llegamos, estaban tocando la segunda canción, es decir, llegamos un poquillo tarde, y había muchísima gente. Nos ubicamos del lado lateral izquierdo del escenario, se veía claramente a la orquesta en vivo, pero en video no tanto y yo no estaba para nada conforme, así que les avisé a mis papás que iba a intentar llegar hasta adelante y no me pregunten cómo… ¡Lo conseguí! por eso en el video, la orquesta se ve tan cerca.
When we arrived, they were playing the second song, so we were a bit late, and there were a lot of people. We were on the left side of the stage, you could clearly see the orchestra live, but not so much on video and I wasn't at all happy, so I told my parents that I was going to try to get to the front and don't ask me how... I made it! That's why in the video, the orchestra looked so close.
Cuando terminó el concierto, me moví hacia el lado de dónde vi salir a los cantantes y en efecto, ya habían bajado del escenario pero se estaban haciendo fotos con los organizadores del evento. Yo me fui arrimando a los barrotes de seguridad poco a poco y en un rápido movimiento me colé por abajo y me paré junto a un grupo de gente como si fuese alguien más del staff. Me acerqué a los muchachos y me hice una foto con cada uno.
When the concert was over, I moved to the side from where I saw the singers leaving and indeed, they had already left the stage but were taking photos with the event organisers. I moved closer to the security bars little by little and in one swift movement I slipped underneath and stood next to a group of people as if I were one of the staff. I approached the guys and took a photo with each of them.
Les pregunté si les podía hacer una entrevista corta y aceptaron gustosos (son muy muy amables) pero el teléfono no tenía memoria y no podía ni siquiera grabar la entrevista en audio. Sin embargo eso no me detuvo, así que les dije que escribiría sus respuestas en el teléfono para no perder los datos importantes.
I asked them if I could do a short interview with them and they gladly accepted (they are very, very nice) but the phone had no memory and I couldn't even record the interview on audio. However, that didn't stop me, so I told them I would write their answers on the phone so as not to lose the important data.
La Billo’s Caracas Boys tiene actualmente 81 años de carrera artística y desde su fundación hasta la actualidad, los músicos y cantantes han variado, algunos tienen más tiempo que otros en la agrupación. Los cantantes icónicos de la orquesta fueron Billo Frómeta (su fundador) Cheo García, Memo Morales y Ely Méndez. Actualmente sus cantantes son Cristopher Troy, Alexander Hurtado y Yainer Mayorga.
Billo's Caracas Boys is currently 81 years old and from its founding to the present day, the musicians and singers have varied, some have been with the group longer than others. The iconic singers of the orchestra were Billo Frómeta (the founder) Cheo García, Memo Morales and Ely Méndez. The current singers are Cristopher Troy, Alexander Hurtado and Yainer Mayorga.
Tras el fallecimiento de Ely Méndez luego de 50 años con la orquesta, Cristopher es el nuevo integrante que ahora ocupa su lugar y en sus propias palabras y a sus escasos 20 años, “Es difícil llenar unos zapatos tan grandes, sin embargo el apoyo del público me ha dado la fortaleza para hacer las cosas bien en memoria del músico a quien mucho admiro”.
After the death of Ely Méndez after 50 years with the orchestra, Cristopher is the new member who now takes his place and in his own words and at only 20 years of age, "It's difficult to fill such big shoes, however the support of the public has given me the strength to do things well in memory of the musician I admire so much".
“Todos crecimos con la música de esta orquesta y ahora ser parte de ella es una de las mejores cosas que nos han pasado” expresó Alexander Hurtado
"We all grew up with the music of this orchestra and now being part of it is one of the best things that has happened to us," said Alexander Hurtado.
“Nos hemos divertido mucho esta noche y en nombre del gran maestro Ely, seguiremos cantando y continuando con el legado de más de 81 años de carrera de la orquesta” continuó Yainer.
“We had a lot of fun tonight and on behalf of the great master Ely, we will continue to sing and carry on the legacy of over 81 years of the orchestra's career," continued Yainer.
Después de esto volví con mi familia a pasar un rato más en la plaza ya que habían otras cosas más para ver y poco después volvimos a casa. Nos divertimos mucho.
After that I went back with my family to spend some more time on the square as there were other things to see and shortly after that we went back home. We had a great time.
