Adonidia merrillii es una palmera solitaria y erecta que pertenece a la familia Arecaceae y es conocida comúnmente como palmera de Manila, por ser una especie originaria de Filipinas, no obstante, se cultiva en todos los trópicos del mundo desde hace siglos. Crece con bastante rapidez hasta alcanzar una altura de unos 1,80 metros, pero después lo hace muy lentamente hasta alcanzar una altura de 5 a 10 metros. En las siguientes 2 fotografías es la que se aprecia delante de otra especie de palmera de mayor tamaño.
Adonidia merrillii is a solitary and erect palm belonging to the Arecaceae family and is commonly known as Manila palm, because it is a native species of the Philippines, however, it has been cultivated in all the tropics of the world for centuries. It grows quite rapidly until it reaches a height of about 1.80 meters, but then it grows very slowly until it reaches a height of 5 to 10 meters. In the following 2 photographs it is the one seen in front of another larger palm species.
Estas palmeras solitarias soportan hojas verdes rígidas y arqueadas de 1,5 metros de largo. Las hojas son compuestas pinnadas con foliolos amontonados, dispuestos regularmente, pero divergentes en planos ligeramente diferentes.
These solitary palms support stiff, arching green leaves 1.5 meters long. Leaves are pinnate compound with leaflets crowded, regularly arranged, but diverging in slightly different planes.
El tallo es delgado, de 15-20 centímetros de diámetro, anillado con cicatrices foliares cercanas, que se vuelven longitudinalmente estriadas, de color gris.
The stem is slender, 15-20 centimeters in diameter, banded with close leaf scars, becoming longitudinally striate, gray in color.
Cuando capturé las primeras 2 fotografías anteriores la palmera de Manila no tenía frutos, y transcurrido un tiempo, a la misma palmera le capturé otras fotografías a sus frutos en distintos estados de maduración que son las fotografías que muestro a continuación.
When I captured the first 2 photographs above, the Manila palm had no fruits, and after some time, I captured other photographs of the same palm with its fruits in different stages of maturation, which are the photographs I show below.
Cabe destacar que en extracto metanólico, de acetato de etilo y de agua obtenidos experimentalmente de frutos de esta palmera, se han encontrado diversos compuestos bioactivos, y el extracto metanólico mostró una mayor actividad antioxidante y anticancerígena en comparación con los otros extractos, atribuido a que contenía mayor cantidad de compuestos bioactivos.
It should be noted that in methanolic, ethyl acetate and water extracts obtained experimentally from fruits of this palm tree, various bioactive compounds have been found, and the methanolic extract showed higher antioxidant and anticarcinogenic activity compared to the other extracts, attributed to the fact that it contained a greater amount of bioactive compounds.

En mayor detalle pueden apreciarse los frutos en distintos escenarios de degradación, donde en algunos ya se aprecia el endocarpio de la semilla.
In greater detail, the fruits can be seen in different degradation scenarios, where in some of them the seed endocarp is already visible.
Las semillas contienen aminoácidos y los más abundantes son el ácido glutámico y la leucina, también contienen ácidos grasos, en mayor cantidad palmítico, oleico, linoleico y en menor cantidad el ácido linolénico; además contienen en mayor cantidad los minerales magnesio y hierro, no obstante, las semillas presentan ciertos factores antinutricionales por lo que con un procesamiento adecuado las semillas podrían servir como productos potenciales para la nutrición humana y animal.
Seeds contain amino acids, the most abundant of which are glutamic acid and leucine; they also contain fatty acids, mainly palmitic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids and, to a lesser extent, linolenic acid; they also contain the minerals magnesium and iron. However, seeds have certain anti-nutritional factors, so with proper processing, seeds could serve as potential products for human and animal nutrition.

En el tiempo, hice recorridos por otros sitios y logré capturar fotografías en 3 sitios. En el primero capturé fotografías de las flores en una palmera de menor tamaño.
Over time, I toured other places and captured photographs at 3 places. At the first one I captured photographs of the flowers on a smaller palm tree.
Las flores se muestran en inflorescencias ramificadas y son de color blanco cremoso, se presentan en racimos de 2-3 o solitarias a lo largo de las raquillas en espigas retorcidas.
The flowers are shown in branched inflorescences and are creamy white, presented in clusters of 2-3 or solitary along the rachillae in twisted spikes.
Las flores son estaminadas en forma de bala, con tres sépalos imbricados, tres pétalos valvados más largos que los sépalos, con 45-50 estambres con filamentos largos y delgados.
Flowers are bullet-shaped staminate, with three imbricate sepals, three valvate petals longer than the sepals, with 45-50 stamens with long slender filaments.
En el segundo sitio capturé 1 fotografía de una palmera Manila donde se aprecian las inflorescencias y los frutos inmaduros (verdes) y maduros (rojos).
At the second place I captured 1 photograph of a Manila palm where the inflorescences and the unripe (green) and ripe (red) fruits are visible.
Finalmente, en el tercer sitio pude capturar 2 fotografías en detalle de los frutos verdes y rojos. Por ese cambio de coloración de verde a rojo también se le conoce comúnmente como “palmera de Navidad”.
Finally, at the third place I was able to capture 2 photographs in detail of the green and red fruits. Because of that coloration change from green to red it is also commonly known as "Christmas palm".
