El baile de los 41 es una película basada en hechos reales, la cual transcurre a inicios del siglo pasado, cuenta con una excelente escenografía y vestuarios, los cuales respetan la línea de tiempo de México a comienzos de 1900. El verdadero nombre del hecho se conoce como "El baile de los 41 maricones".

Cuenta la historia de Ignacio de la Torre, un joven diputado quien recibe dicho cargo tras prometerse con la hija de una india y el general Porfirio Díaz, presidente de México, “Amada Díaz”, una mujer quien se describe como aquella que fue criada en el campo pero sabe limpiar, armar y cargar un rifle y puede defenderse por sí misma.
It tells the story of Ignacio de la Torre, a young deputy who receives this position after getting engaged to the daughter of an Indian woman and General Porfirio Díaz, president of Mexico, “Amada Díaz”, a woman who is described as the one who was raised in the field but knows how to clean, assemble and load a rifle and can defend herself.
Este es un matrimonio por conveniencia, a Ignacio le permite incursionar en el mundo de la política al convertirse en el yerno del presidente, mientras que a Amada le confiere status social. Pero poco después ambos se dan cuenta que convivir sin tener nada en común y sin amor es un pesado yugo con el cual deben cargar.
This is a marriage of convenience, Ignacio allows him to enter the world of politics by becoming the president's son-in-law, while he gives Amada social status. But shortly after, they both realize that living together without having anything in common and without love is a heavy yoke with which they must carry.
Una vez trabajando en el senado, Ignacio conoce al licenciado Evaristo Rivas, un joven abogado, quien tras una primer vistazo sienten una profunda atracción. Luego en su segundo encuentro, unos tragos y conocerse un poco más inician una relación amorosa peligrosa, destinada al secretismo debido a lo recatada y presiones de la sociedad del siglo XX.
Once working in the Senate, Ignacio met Evaristo Rivas, a young lawyer, who after a first glance felt a deep attraction. Then in their second meeting, a few drinks and getting to know each other a little more start a dangerous love affair, destined to secrecy due to the modesty and pressures of 20th century society.
Ignacio, junto a otros hombres de la alta sociedad y la política pertenece a un club exclusivo, donde se reúnen para compartir información, charlar y disfrutar de la música, el teatro y de ellos mismos. El club es un oasis secreto donde pueden demostrarse tal como son, sin miedo a ser juzgados por su preferencia sexual, donde se desinhiben con el alcohol y hacen florecer sus instintos amorosos.
Ignacio, along with other men from high society and politics, belongs to an exclusive club, where they meet to share information, chat and enjoy music, theater and themselves. The club is a secret oasis where they can show themselves as they are, without fear of being judged for their sexual preference, where they lose their inhibitions with alcohol and make their love instincts flourish.
Con el objetivo de poder ver más seguido a Evaristo, Ignacio le invita a formar parte del club, sin embargo, antes debe cumplir con algunas condiciones y jurar guardar el secreto de la sociedad, que tras el ingreso de Evaristo es llamado “El club de los 42”, al estar conformado por 42 hombres. La iniciación es seguida de una cena, culminando la velada en una orgía entre los miembros, donde Ignacio y Evaristo están juntos íntimamente por primera vez.
In order to be able to see Evaristo more often, Ignacio invites him to be part of the club, however, first he must comply with some conditions and swear to keep the secret of the society, which after Evaristo's entry is called “The club of the 42”, being made up of 42 men. The initiation is followed by a dinner, culminating the evening in an orgy between the members, where Ignacio and Evaristo are intimately together for the first time.
Al mismo tiempo, Amada comienza a obstinarse de las frecuentes ausencias de Ignacio, sus llegadas por la madrugada, escusas de trabajo y desatenciones por lo que decide escribir a su padre, el presidente, quien comienza a hacer preguntas, Ignacio para calmar las tensiones, compra fina joyería a su esposa y de esta forma la apacigua, pero sigue sin ofrecerle lo que toda la familia espera de él, un hijo.
At the same time, Amada begins to obstinate from Ignacio's frequent absences, his early morning arrivals, work excuses and neglect, so she decides to write to his father, the president, who begins to ask questions, Ignacio to calm tensions, he buys fine jewelry for his wife and thus appeases her, but still does not offer her what the whole family expects of him, a son.
Ignacio y Evaristo se vuelven inseparables, buscan cualquier oportunidad para asistir al club y poder encontrarse. Sin embargo comienzan a surgir rumores sobre ellos. Amada supone lo evidente, las ausencias de Ignacio responden a que este tiene una aventura con alguien más, por lo que entra a su despacho y revisa hasta el último recodo para conseguir evidencia, en este caso cartas enviadas por Evaristo, firmadas como "Eva", el nombre que le dio Ignacio de cariño, Amada al pensar que se trataba de una mujer le invita una tarde a la casa para así conocerle, siendo su sorpresa que se trata de un hombre.
Ignacio and Evaristo become inseparable, they look for any opportunity to attend the club and be able to meet. However rumors begin to emerge about them. Amada assumes the obvious, Ignacio's absences respond to the fact that he has an affair with someone else, so he enters his office and checks every corner to get evidence, in this case letters sent by Evaristo, signed as "Eva", the name that Ignacio gave him affectionately, Amada, thinking that it was a woman, she invites her one afternoon to the house in order to meet her, being her surprise that it is a man.
Amada ante este hecho, llena de rencor hacia su esposo toma las cartas y las guarda en un lugar secreto, para esconderlas y usarlas luego en su beneficio si llega a ser necesario, lo cual no hace esperar, amenaza a Ignacio con contra todo lo que sabe sobre su vida privada si este no le da un hijo, a pesar de que si cuenta dichos hechos ella y su familia también se verán envueltos en un escándalo que podría costarle la presidencia a su padre.
Amada by this fact, full of resentment towards her husband, she takes the letters and keeps them in a secret place, to hide them and use them later for her benefit if it becomes necessary, which does not make her wait, she threatens Ignacio with against everything that she knows about his private life if he does not give her a child, despite the fact that if she tells these facts she and her family will also be involved in a scandal that could cost her father the presidency.
Esta situación obliga a Ignacio a dejar de asistir a las reuniones del club. Asimismo, el presidente de la sociedad persuade a Evaristo a guardar las apariencias, no mostrarse en público y verse lo menos posible, para que todo quede en secreto ya que de lo contrario las cosas no terminarán bien para nadie.
This situation forces Ignacio to stop attending club meetings. Likewise, the president of the company persuades Evaristo to keep up appearances, not show himself in public and meet as little as possible, so that everything remains as a secret since otherwise things will not end well for anyone.
Y vaya que tenía razón, ante una petición de que investiguen al diputado de la Torre comienzan a seguirle los pasos por orden del general Porfirio, sin embargo este es muy escurridizo y los perseguidores le pierden la pista, permitiéndole asistir a una reunión más del club. Pero en vista de que no es suficiente con seguirlo para conocer sus pasos, es obligado a aceptar ser seguido por tres escoltas, para así vigilarlo permanente y conocer cada uno de sus movimientos.
And boy was he right, before a request to investigate Deputy de la Torre they begin to follow in his footsteps by order of General Porfirio, however this is very elusive and the pursuers lose track of him, allowing him to attend one more club meeting. But since it is not enough to follow him to know his steps, he is forced to accept being followed by three bodyguards, in order to monitor him permanently and know his every move.
Al verse obligado a permanecer más tiempo en casa la tensión se nota entre los esposos, Ignacio no soporta a Amada, mientras que esta sigue insistiendo en querer tener un hijo, sin embargo el simple hecho de estar cerca de ella a de la Torre le disgusta.
Being forced to stay at home longer, the tension is noticeable between the spouses, Ignacio cannot stand Amada, while she continues to insist on wanting to have a child, however de la Torre dislikes the simple fact of being close to her.
Ignacio tenía la esperanza que moviendo las piezas correctas, uniéndose con ciertas personas y tramando conspiraciones, además de contar con el favor de su suegro obtendría la gobernación de la capital de México, no obstante el electorado no tiene la mejor opinión del diputado de la Torre, ya que los rumores de su estilo de vida y sexualidad están en boca de todo el mundo. Tanto así que el asesor de campaña le sugieren no postularse para ahorrarse la derrota, aceptando posponer su candidatura.
Ignacio hoped that by moving the correct pieces, joining with certain people and plotting conspiracies, in addition to having the favor of his father-in-law, he would obtain the governorship of the capital of Mexico, however the electorate does not have the best opinion of the deputy de la Torre, since the rumors of his lifestyle and sexuality are on everyone's lips. So much so that the campaign advisor suggests not running to avoid defeat, agreeing to postpone his candidacy.
El 17 de noviembre se celebra el baile anual del club de los 42, una cita a la cual Ignacio pese a la persecución, el seguimiento y el peligro que implicaba no se podía perder así que decide asistir. La fiesta consistía en que 21 hombres irían vestidos con ropa de mujer mientras que los restantes con ropa masculina. Ignacio al usar un vestido verde y cubrirse con una capa disuade la vigilancia de sus escoltas y puede dirigirse a la fiesta. Todo con el objetivo de volver a encontrarse con su amado "Eva" y disfrutar de la velada.
On November 17, the annual dance of the club of 42 is celebrated, an appointment to which Ignacio, despite the persecution, the monitoring and the danger that it implied, could not be missed, so he decides to attend. La celebración iba bien, estaban bailando y disfrutando de la velada, pero de pronto la fiesta es frustrada por una redada de la policía quienes invaden la mansión donde se llevaba a cabo la misma y arrestan a los miembros del club de los 42.

La noticia es inmediatamente informada al Presidente, en vista de que en la fiesta se encontraba la alta sociedad de México pormenorizada en una lista donde figuraban los 42 detenidos y tras leerla afirma que sólo son 41 detenidos, encubriendo a su yerno, Ignacio de la Torre, para así evitarse un escándalo personal y a su familia, por lo que este último es liberado de prisión en secreto.
The news is immediately reported to the President, in view of the fact that the high society of Mexico was at the party, detailed in a list where the 42 detainees appeared and after reading it he affirms that there are only 41 detainees, covering up his son-in-law, Ignacio de la Torre, in order to avoid a personal scandal and his family, so the latter is released from prison in secret.
Al día siguiente, los 41 hombres son conducidos al centro de la ciudad en un desfile de abucheos al comienzo, luego son golpeados, apedrados y ridiculizados injustamente por los ciudadanos, siendo todo esto ilegal, ya que la homosexualidad y el travestismo no se consideraba un delito según las leyes de México.
The following day, the 41 men are led to the center of the city in a parade of boos at the beginning, then they are beaten, stoned and unfairly ridiculed by the citizens, all of this being illegal, since homosexuality and transvestism were not considered a crime, according to the laws of Mexico.
Ignacio es salvado de su escarmiento y las vejaciones, pero a qué precio, ya nunca más verá a su amado Eva, puesto a que Evaristo y otros más fueron enviados a Yucatan a combatir en la 'Guerra de Castas' al sureste del país, donde casi o todos mueren, un destino que podría pensarse es más piadoso que el que le corresponde soportar a Ignacio, quedando atrapado en un matrimonio sin amor y mucho peor aún, sin Eva.
Ignacio is saved from his punishment and humiliation, but at what cost, he will never see his beloved Eva again, since Evaristo and others were sent to Yucatan to fight in the 'Caste War' in the southeast of the country, where almost or all of them die, a fate that might be thought to be more pious than Ignacio's duty to endure, being trapped in a loveless marriage and even worse, without Eva.
Esta película demuestra como la sociedad desde tiempos inmemoriales ha actuado como un yugo castrense y reprime la expresión de la sexualidad de los ciudadanos, aún en pleno siglo XXI, luego de muchos avances tecnológicos y científicos seguimos evidenciando el mismo prejuicio, a veces no tan marcado, pero si sigue latente, sobretodo en Latinoamérica, donde la cultura machista es una pauta.
This film shows how society from time immemorial has acted as a military yoke and represses the expression of sexuality of citizens, even in the XXI century, after many technological and scientific advances we continue to show the same prejudice, sometimes not so marked, but it is still latent, especially in Latin America, where the macho culture is a guideline.
