En el puerto de esta localidad se colocó un monumentos a los hombres de la mar. Tarifa, antes que existiera el turismo y los deportes de vela, ha vivido del mar. De los productos que pueden conseguir con los pequeños barcos de pesca.
A monument to the men of the sea was placed in the port of this town. Tarifa, before tourism and sailing sports existed, lived from the sea. From the products that can be obtained from the small fishing boats.
Tarifa se encuentra en el extremo sur de Europa metido de lleno en el Estrecho de Gibraltar y los temporales y las fuertes corrientes hacen de estas aguas unas de las más peligrosas del mundo. Pero a la vez unas de las más ricas en pesca. Por ellas pasan multitud de animales buscando las mejores condiciones para reproducirse o alimentarse.
Tarifa is located at the southernmost tip of Europe in the Strait of Gibraltar and the storms and strong currents make these waters some of the most dangerous in the world. But at the same time it is one of the richest fishing grounds. A multitude of animals pass through these waters looking for the best conditions to reproduce or feed.
Los hombres de la mar de Tarifa son experimentados pescadores que llevan el oficio desde niños. Mantienen sus barcos con mucho cuidado. La época de pesca del atún, las embarcaciones quedan pequeñas junto al tamaño de los especímenes.
The fishermen of Tarifa are experienced fishermen who have been fishing since they were children. They maintain their boats with great care. During the tuna fishing season, the boats are too small for the size of the specimens.
La gran mayoría de las embarcaciones usan aparejos tradicionales y selectivos como es la pesca de pincho. No usan redes, usan una línea de anzuelos donde el pescado que entra es del tamaño deseado siendo más ecológico.
The vast majority of the boats use traditional and selective fishing gear, such as the "pincho" fishing. They do not use nets, they use a hook line where the fish that enters is of the desired size and is more ecological.
