Hoy me encuentro por aquí para compartir con ustedes un tema interesante, acerca del mango, un árbol frutal muy apreciado en Venezuela y otras zonas del trópico gracias a sus numerosas bondades de las que pienso hablarles.
Today I am here to share with you an interesting topic, about the mango, a fruit tree very appreciated in Venezuela and other areas of the tropics thanks to its many benefits that I plan to tell you about.

El árbol de Mango, patrimonio natural del Estado Cojedes. | The Mango tree, natural heritage of the State of Cojedes.
El árbol de Mango es una planta muy común en las llanuras y pampas cojedeñas, tanto que gracias a eso al Estado se le conoce como “La cuna del Mango” en Venezuela. Decidí escoger esta planta para resaltar y hablar de ella en este concurso gracias a la importancia que tiene el Mango en la región.
The Mango tree is a very common plant in the plains and pampas cojedeñas, so much so that thanks to that the state is known as "The cradle of the Mango" in Venezuela. I decided to choose this plant to highlight and talk about it in this contest because of the importance of the Mango in the region.
Para quienes no la conozcan el árbol de Mango en la región cumple con estas características:
For those who do not know the Mango tree in the region has these characteristics:
- Nombre científico: Mangifera indica. | Scientific name: Mangifera indica.
- Altura: Hasta 45 metros de altura y 30 metros de diámetro en la copa. | Height: Up to 45 meters high and 30 meters in diameter at the top.
- Fruto: Mango. | Fruit: Mango
- Hojas: Verdes, aletrnadas y simples de 15-30 cm de longitud. | Leaves: Green, aletrnate and simple, 15-30 cm long.
- Tipos: Existen más de mil variedades (dato no confirmado por el autor). | Types: There are more than a thousand varieties (data not confirmed by the author).
Existen varias especies de esta planta en el mundo pero las más comunes en Venezuela, y en esta región son:
There are several species of this plant in the world but the most common in Venezuela, and in this region are:
- Hilacho - Hilacho.
- Bocao' - Bocao'.
- Manga gigante - Giant mango.
- Mango piñita. - Mango piñita.
Por mi parte mis mangos favoritos son estos que comúnmente se conocen como: Mango bocao’, Mango hilacho y la Manga, que es un mango grande y jugoso cuyo color es rojizo intenso con amarillo, este último es mi favorito.
For my part my favorite mangos are those commonly known as: Mango bocao', Mango hilacho and the Manga, which is a large, juicy mango whose color is deep reddish with yellow, the latter is my favorite.
El papel que ha cumplido este árbol a lo largo de los años ha sido vital; en cualquier zona del estado podemos encontrar al menos un árbol de este ejemplar, al ser un árbol frondoso y de gran altura provee de grandes y frescas sombras a las zonas residenciales (de hecho en mi casa hay un árbol de Mango que nos da mucha sombra) eso sin contar las deliciosas frutas que provee en épocas de cosecha.
The role that this tree has played throughout the years has been vital; in any area of the state we can find at least one tree of this specimen, being a leafy tree and of great height it provides great and fresh shadows to the residential areas (in fact in my house there is a Mango tree that gives us a lot of shade) that without counting the delicious fruits that it provides in times of harvest.
El árbol de Mango ha ayudado a proveer el ambiente de oxígeno por ser una de las especies más numerosa en la zona, además ha contribuido a embellecer todas las zonas verdes de la región.
The Mango tree has helped to provide the environment with oxygen because it is one of the most numerous species in the area, it has also contributed to beautify all the green areas of the region.
Pero quizás su rol más importante lo encontramos en el ámbito económico, gastronómico y cultural pues durante años ha sido el producto de principal exportación desde el Estado Cojedes hacia otras zonas del país e incluso el mundo, lo que genera grandes ganancias económicas y también puestos de trabajos en muchos asentamientos campesinos y zonas rurales del estado.
But perhaps its most important role is found in the economic, gastronomic and cultural field because for years it has been the main export product from the State of Cojedes to other areas of the country and even the world, which generates large economic gains and jobs in many rural settlements and rural areas of the state.
En la gastronomía cojedeña el mango tiene mucho protagonismo al ser el ingrediente principal de platos dulces como la jalea de mango, una especie de manjar dulce hecho a base de la pulpa del mango, azúcar y vainilla (según el gusto) preparada a altas temperaturas generalmente en grandes y resistentes calderos a fuego alto con leña.
In the gastronomy of Cojedes, the mango is the main ingredient of sweet dishes such as the jalea de mango, a kind of sweet delicacy made from mango pulp, sugar and vanilla (according to taste) prepared at high temperatures usually in large and resistant cauldrons over high heat with firewood.
Culturalmente el Mango es algo que nos define a los cojedeños pues está bien arraigado en nuestras costumbres; en los dulces, comidas, como árbol que da sombra y refugio, y por supuesto su fruta, el Mango es el árbol más representativo del lugar donde vivo y por eso hoy quise compartirlo con ustedes.
Culturally the Mango is something that defines us cojedeños because it is well rooted in our customs; in sweets, food, as a tree that gives shade and shelter, and of course its fruit, the Mango is the most representative tree of the place where I live and that's why today I wanted to share it with you.
