Los macrólidos son fármacos bacteriostáticos que se encargan de limitar el crecimiento bacteriano tanto de bacterias Gram positivas y negativas, la mayoria de estos fármacos son bien tolerados y poseen pocos efectos toxicos cumplen un papel fundamental en infecciones de piel y partes blandas, urinarias, gastrointestinales ademas poseen un gran efecto sobre enfermedades respiratorias como el asma, algunos tipos de neumonia entre otras incluso sus usos pueden estar asociados a otras enfermedades inflamatorias.
Dentro de la clasificacion de los macrólidos encontramos principalmente la claritromicina, la eritromicina y la azitromicina en cuanto a la forma de administracion puede ser tanto intravenosa como via oral, se metaboliza a traves del higado y se elimina a traves de las heces la dosis y duracion del tratamiento dependera según el criterio medico.
