INTODUCCIÓN / INTRODUCTION
Los avances tecnológicos continúan y con ellos surgen las indagaciones relacionadas al uso de las diferentes sustancias o compuestos químicos que son utilizado como materia prima en la fabricación de los materiales de uso común en nuestro día a día. En esta ocasión particularmente centraremos nuestra explicación en los ftalatos, el cual es conocido como una sustancia química que se emplea en la elaboración de plástico, ya que es empleado en la producción del (PVC), conocido como el cloruro de polivinilo.
Technological advances continue and with them arise the inquiries related to the use of different substances or chemical compounds that are used as raw materials in the manufacture of materials commonly used in our daily lives. On this occasion we will particularly focus our explanation on phthalates, which is known as a chemical substance used in the manufacture of plastic, as it is used in the production of (PVC), known as polyvinyl chloride.
Lo que está causando una gran preocupación es que en los últimos años sean realizados indagaciones sobre este compuesto y se han descubierto que presenta ciertas propiedades toxicológica y que sus efectos en la salud son adversos, como resultado de ser un disruptor en el sistema endocrino y como debe ser de conocimiento común, las diferentes funciones que cumplen las hormonas en el organismo.
What is causing great concern is that in recent years research has been conducted on this compound and it has been discovered that it has certain toxicological properties and that its effects on health are adverse, as a result of being a disruptor in the endocrine system and, as should be common knowledge, the different functions that hormones perform in the body.

LOS FTALATOS / PHTHALATES
Forman parte de la familia de los compuestos orgánicos de esteres aromáticos o del ácido tereftalico, se caracteriza por tener ciertas propiedades físicas como ser un líquido aceitoso de color claro, es poco soluble en agua y es poco volátil. Este compuesto altamente toxico es principalmente usado en la industria del plástico y se clasifican tomando como referencia su peso molecular en ftalatos de alto o bajo peso molecular, siendo el más usado el di-2etilhexilftalato (DEHP)
They are part of the family of organic compounds of aromatic esters or terephthalic acid, characterized by certain physical properties such as being a light-colored oily liquid, poorly soluble in water and not very volatile. This highly toxic compound is mainly used in the plastics industry and is classified according to its molecular weight into high and low molecular weight phthalates, the most commonly used being di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP).

Su característica de flexibilidad que le confiere a los materiales plásticos es lo que lo hace uno de los principales compuestos utilizados en la fabricación de productos plásticos como tubos PVC, juguetes y chupones de los niños, entre otros más. No obstante, investigaciones realizadas desde hace unos años le otorgan un carácter toxico, ya que se le ha hecho responsable de múltiples enfermedades en los seres humanos como afectar el sistema endocrino y por lo tanto alterar múltiples funciones celulares en el organismo, además de ser responsable directo de contaminar el medio ambiente en muchos de sus ecosistemas.

Son muchos los productos que podemos encontrar en nuestra cotidianidad en los cuales se encuentra presente esta sustancia altamente toxica para el ser humano, animales y ambiente en general, por lo que se hace necesario estar informado cuales son los medios de exposición que tenemos a él.

Aunque no lo crean este compuesto químico lo hemos consumido en diferentes ocasiones de forma indirecta, ya que muchos de los alimentos que consumimos e ingerimos están contenidos en envases elaborados de plástico y donde su materia prima es el ftalato, del mismo modo lo hemos inhalado en el medio ambiente cuando estos plásticos son quemados y otra de las formas más comunes es en la aplicación de productos de higiene personal en los cuales están presente.

FTALATO: DAÑOS EN LA SALUD / PHTHALATE: DAMAGE TO HEALTH
Se han comprobado el nivel toxicológico que tiene los ftalatos en la salud de las diferentes especies humanas y animales, ya que en las investigaciones realizadas se ha podido evidenciar como estos productos afectan desde el punto de vista biológico los metabolitos de estos, además de afectar algunos órganos como el intestino y los pulmones , todo esto termina por generar enfermedades como reducción en los genitales y el ano de los niños, afecta las hormonas masculinas reduciéndolas a tal punto que los puede hacer estéril, la obesidad y aumenta la proliferación de células cancerígenas.

Todo ello ha conllevado a la restricción de este productos en los diferentes productos que son empleados en los alimentos, además de evitar la fabricación de juguetes o chupones con esta sustancia toxicológica.

Los ftalatos son compuestos químicos pertenecientes a la familia de los esteres aromáticos y que son ampliamente utilizado en la fabricación de plásticos, ya que le adjudica propiedades de flexibilidad a los materiales, por lo tanto los hace mucho más moldeables, esta sustancia química es empleada en la producción de los tubos PVC, juguetes y chupones para niños, calzados, manguera, bolsas y vasos plásticos, además de estar presente en los envases de alimentos y bebidas desechables.
Phthalates are chemical compounds belonging to the family of aromatic esters and are widely used in the manufacture of plastics, since they give flexibility properties to the materials, thus making them much more moldable. Hace algunos años se han realizado ciertas investigaciones que han sido realmente alarmantes para la salud de los seres humanos, los animales y el medio ambiente, ya que provoca alteraciones en el sistema endocrino, intestino y pulmones en los organismos, mientras que en el medio ambiente lo afecta en diferentes áreas con la quema y acumulación de plásticos.
