Having been away for a while means that I let several topics pass me by on one of my favorite subjects, music. I haven't talked about how amazing Yeyo, 16, Kendrick Lamar's new album, the universe encompassing everything the weeknd is doing; nor have I talked about Harry Styles' latest album or Bad Bunny's latest album, but that alone makes me think that I haven't told you about the importance of the fashion movement this year, the avant-garde bets on photography and design. So, to try to kill two birds with one stone, I want to talk about one of my favorite photographers: Stillz.
El haber estado un tiempo ausente significa que dejé pasar varios tópicos sobre uno de mis temas favoritos, la música. No he hablado de lo increíble que es Yeyo, 16, el nuevo álbum de Kendrick Lamar, el universo que engloba todo lo que está haciendo the weeknd; tampoco he hablado del último álbum de Harry Styles o el último álbum de Bad Bunny, pero eso solo me hace pensar que tampoco les he comentado acerca de la importancia que ha tenido el movimiento de la moda este año, las apuestas vanguardistas por la fotografía y el diseño. Por eso, para tratar de matar dos pajaros de un tiro, quiero hablar de uno de mis fotógrafos favoritos: Stillz.
Stillz is a photographer, music video director and director of photography that for me, is being the guide of the aesthetics of pop culture, at least as far as Latin America is concerned, why? Because he is the creator of Bad Bunny's videos, and thanks to that, director of several music videos of other artists such as Lil Nas X, Mora, Rosalia and Jhay Cortez.
It is also worth noting that he is not only a simple director, but his work as a photographer has stood out for years, taking pictures of industry greats such as Xxxtentacion, Lil peep, Ricky Martin and almost any music artist you can imagine that is relevant in pop culture in recent years, being also only twenty-two years old.
Stillz es un fotógrafo, director de vídeos musicales y director de fotografía que para mí, está siendo el guía de la estética de la cultura pop, por lo menos en lo que a Latinoamérica se refiere, ¿por qué? Porque es el creador de los vídeos de Bad Bunny, y gracias a eso, director de varios vídeos musicales de otros artistas como lo son Lil Nas X, Mora, Rosalia y Jhay Cortez.
También cabe destacar que no solo es un simple director, sino que su trabajo como fotógrafo se destaca desde hace años, tomándole fotos a grandes de la industria como Xxxtentacion, Lil peep, Ricky Martin y casi cualquier artista musical que te puedas imaginar que sea relevante en la cultura pop de los últimos años, teniendo además solo veintidós años.
Stillz starts out as J Balvin's photographer, and meets Bad Bunny after shooting the video for the e hit "La canción" from the Oasis album back in October 2019. After a good connection, Stillz co-directs amazing videos like Bichiyal, La difícil and almost all of the YHLQSMDLG era, until he gets enough confidence to start directing without help.
With videos like Dakiti, Titi asked me, Moscow Mule, Booker T, Candy (Rosalia), 512 (Jhay Cortez), that's what i want (lil nas x) and many more, I'm sure that Stillz consolidates himself as one of the best music video directors of the century at only 22 years old, showing us a narrative that is very much driven by the framing and the good transition between shots, giving us to understand that he is not just another photographer, but also loves music and loves his work.
Stillz empieza como fotógrafo de J Balvin, y conoce a Bad Bunny tras grabar el vídeo de la e exitosa “La canción” del álbum Oasis allá en octubre del 2019. Después de una buena conexión, Stillz co dirige vídeos increíbles como Bichiyal, La difícil y casi toda la era de YHLQSMDLG, hasta que obtiene la confianza suficiente para empezar a dirigir sin ayuda.
Con vídeos como Dakiti, Titi me preguntó, Moscow Mule, Booker T, Candy (Rosalia), 512 (Jhay Cortez), that's what i want (lil nas x) y varios más, estoy seguro de que Stillz se consolida como uno de los mejores directores de videos musicales del siglo con tan solo 22 años, mostrándonos una narrativa que se deja llevar mucho por los encuadres y la buena transición ente toma y toma, dándonos a entender que no es solo un fotógrafo más, sino que también ama la música y ama su trabajo.
